This is an exciting opportunity to join the National Repository Centre within the Postgraduate Medical Education Team at the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.

The National Repository Centre facilitates and co-ordinates a National Body Donation programme, to provide Specimens for Medical Education and Surgical Centre at licensed Centres throughout the UK and locally at the Clinical Skills Centre situated at the Nottingham City Hospital Campus.

We are looking to appoint an individual who will bring an excellent drive and enthusiasm, who will work closely with the Senior Anatomy Technologist to assist with the daily duties and running of the NRC. Work closely with other departments within the Postgraduate Medical Education Department. Being part of a small and wider team the individual should have a strong team ethic to drive the service to the next level. The individual will report directly to the Senior Anatomy Technologist.

Working closely with the Senior Anatomy Technologist the post holder will support the delivery of a high quality service always maintaining the highest standards of, dignity, safety and quality.

Key responsibilities will include carrying out all National Repository Centre procedures, receipt and release of donors, dissection and preservation work, preparation of cadaveric material to support education and training.

Record, update donor related information into NRC database and hard copy records maintaining data integrity. Ensure the competent and efficient use of computerised data management systems.

Participate in the dissection and preservation work of the department. Ensure all surgical processes in the NRC are carried out safely and in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP’s)

The post holder will be a member of the Clinical Skills and National Repository team which is part of the Postgraduate Medical Education department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Carry out all National Repository Centre (NRC) procedures associated with the post, maintaining appropriate records, documentation and donor identification processes.

Receive and release donors in accordance to Standard Operational Policies.

Carry out receipt, safekeeping and release of donors Clothing, Cash and Personal property in accordance to Trust procedures and department SOPs.

Preparation of fresh and frozen materials for the use in cadaveric courses to include the setting out and clearing away of practical sessions.

Undertake a programme of continuous practical training as daily opportunities arise in order to expand the repertoire of complex dissection procedures which can be performed.

Carry out decontamination and sterilisation processes of the dissection room, instruments, equipment, dissection tables and hard surfaces as directed.

Ensure that safe working practices are followed in accordance with the departmental Safety Policy, with particular reference to safe working practises in the dissection room.

Physical skills

Essential criteria
- Requires developed physical skills and a moderate degree of precision, hand, eye and sensory co-ordination
- Ability to cope with physical tasks involving patient transfer methods
- Moderate to intense physical effort required for several periods throughout the day (dress/undress, transfer, manoeuvre, receipt and release of patients). Will be required to stand for prolonged periods (during post-mortem dissection).

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Royal Institute of Public Health Certificate of Anatomical Pathology Technology or Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (New Course) or British Institute of Embalmers qualification / or equivalent
- Good level of General Education (A levels or equivalent / equivalent work experience)
- Evidence of ongoing professional development

Desirable criteria
- Anatomical degree
- Funeral Services related qualifications
- Member of Association of APTs.
- Associate member of Institute Public Health

Experience

Essential criteria
- Experience in bereavement & mortuary / funeral services demonstrating competency.
- Experience of assisting in all standard post mortem procedures.
- Experience in embalming and/or anatomical dissection
- Experience of surgical evisceration and reconstruction techniques.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Human Tissue Authority Regulations and standards.
