As Harbour Master, you will oversee all marine operations and ensure strict adherence to operational, legislative, Port Marine Safety Code, and other relevant requirements governing the Harbour Authority.

**About you**:
As the Harbour Master, you will play a pivotal role in current business and future ambitions. You will have significant seagoing experience in commercial and /or fishing as well as pilotage experience in a busy marine environment. A working knowledge of Fraserburgh Harbour is desirable but not essential.
You will have a professional approach and be able to work successfully with colleagues, staff, customers and stakeholders whilst demonstrating integrity, discretion and ethical standards in all business relationships and transactions. You will be assertive whilst acting with common sense and a strong sense of fairness, you will be willing to listen and respond promptly to port user needs as appropriate.
**Essential Criteria**
- Comprehensive knowledge of Marine Operations in Ports, including a full understanding of the Port Marine Safety Code compliance requirements
- Knowledge of the UK Port legislation & regulatory requirements
- A good working knowledge of the marine environmental regulatory framework
- Provide strong direction and leadership, ensuring all operational services are safe, customer
focused and of high quality, effectively utilising human, financial and material resources
- Show consistent and clear leadership, which seeks to inspire staff at all levels in the achievement of corporate, departmental, and personal/team objectives
- Promote a culture which supports the Port’s values, staff involvement, empowerment, equality of opportunity and willingness to accept change
**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience of managing risk effectively
- Experience of effectively managing a substantial marine budget
- Experience of managing change, delivering results and meeting operational performance targets
- Experience of working with the Port sector legislation
- Experience of effectively managing relationships with local authorities, economic development and political representatives
You will be comfortable with leadership responsibility, providing clear direction and setting the standards within the Harbour. You’ll have a track record in strong communication and leadership skills as well as being experienced in the day-to-day management of a busy harbour.
**The Role**
As the Harbour Master you will act on behalf of the Board of Commissioners and oversee the safe and efficient operation of Fraserburgh Harbour as required under the Port Marine Safety Code and its associated Guide to Good Practice. Leading the marine team (including the Assistant Harbour Master and other harbour operatives), you will show consistent and clear leadership ensuring the Harbour maintains compliance with all its statutory and environmental requirements.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Harbour Master include:
- Promote best practice and maintain all statutory requirements of a Statutory and Competent Harbour Authority, together with compliance with all aspects of the Port Marine Safety Code
- Lead the Port’s maritime activities and its interaction with its maritime users and stakeholders
- Controlling movement and berthing within the Harbour limits, ensuring safe navigation and avoiding collisions or incidents
- Enforcement of local and national regulations, bylaws, and legislation related to port operations, such as maritime safety, pollution prevention, and security measures
- Provide and oversee pilotage services
- Provide on-call cover on alternate weekends with Assistant Harbour Master
- Undertaking Emergency Response. In the event of maritime emergencies, such as accidents, oil spills, or other incidents, the Harbour Master coordinates and leads the response efforts within the Harbour area
