Youth Worker

Highbridge, United Kingdom Home therapy Full time

Job Overview:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and empathetic person to help my autistic son as a youth worker.

He is a 15-year-old boy with social and communication difficulties, and epilepsy. He has a bright and energetic personality, and is friendly and active. He does require help with appropriate social behaviours and has difficulty with communication.

Experience of youth work and autism is desirable. However, it’s more important to recruit someone who’s the right type of person. Ideally, we are looking for someone who is passionate about working with children, energetic, person-centred, and who can make a positive difference by offering friendly, reliable one-to-one support in the home environment. We live on a smallholding with several animals and a vegetable garden, and there is access to musical instruments and other creative materials. A youth worker would be required to help support my son in this environment by actively engaging him. This could involve encouraging him with hobbies and prompting his interests, assisting him with social and emotional skills through physical activity and games, and engaging positively with him. For example, taking part in gardening, playing outdoor games, tending the animals, creating music, doing craft activities etc. The role may also require help when going on outings with the family (including mum and sister).

Working hours are very flexible as my son is home-schooled. Currently, we are looking for someone who is available 5 hours per week at an hourly rate of £14.50. Payment is through direct payments and includes holiday pay.

Applicants who are enthusiastic and passionate about working with someone in this way are most welcome. An enhanced DBS check will be required, but can be carried out for free.
