**Function of role**
The Head of Schools is part of the R.E.A.L. Leadership team. Its primary focus will be to determine the strategic direction and business development of the schools linked to the core values of trust, innovation and achievement. The Head of Schools will work with the
Directors, the schools leadership team, Governing Body, staff and learners to develop and implement a strategic vision for the school. They will provide reports with analysis and develop plans for the schools future needs and further development.
**Accountabilities**:
- General responsibilities_
- Embody the ethos and vision of the R.E.A.L. way of working, particularly aligned to the delivery of highly personalised and creative approaches of education.
- Ensuring that all learners have access to high quality teaching and learning through an appropriate curriculum.
- Leading and managing staff and fostering effective relationships between all members of the school community and commissioners.
- Drive the efficient, effective management and utilisation of human and financial resources
- Lead the accounting processes for the schools’ efficiency and effectiveness.
- Monitor and safeguard the schools’ inclusive values.
- Managing the organisation_
- The Head of Schools will deploy people and resources efficiently to meet the specific objectives of the Schools’ Improvement Planning.
- Create an organisational structure which reflects the organisation’s values and enables the management systems, structures and processes to work effectively in line with legal requirements.
- Produce and implement clear evidence-based improvement plans and policies for the development of the schools and their facilities.
- Produce, in conjunction with the Directors and the Head of Finance, an annual budget for the schools, setting appropriate priorities for expenditure and allocating funds and resources accordingly.
- Manage expenditure within the agreed budget and report monthly to Directors
- Ensure effective safety, security and supervision of the learners, buildings and grounds in conjunction with the Head of Health, Safety and Environment.

- Monitor and review the range, quantity, quality and use of all available resources in order to improve the quality of education, improve learners’ achievements and to secure value for money.
- Shaping the future_
- In conjunction with stakeholders, develop the school’s vision, ensuring that this is effectively communicated, understood and acted upon effectively by the staff, learners, parents/carers and commissioners.
- Undertake strategic planning which takes into account the diversity, values and experience of the schools and community at large.
- Regularly review and update all school policies, ensuring that the Governing Body is fully involved in this process.
- Ensure that the management, organisation and administration of the schools support the values and strategic objectives of the company.
- Developing self and working with others_
- The Head of Schools will work closely with the Director of Education to ensure that the educational leadership, provision and performance of the schools are of the highest quality.
- The Head of Schools will work in close conjunction with the Director of People and
Business Operations to continuously improve our workforce and refine leadership/management skills across the company.
- Actively lead staff; motivate, support, challenge and develop the staff acting as a strategic role model who fosters autonomy.
- Work with staff to maximise their contribution towards improving the quality of education provided and standards achieved.
- Foster constructive professional relationships at all levels; including leadership, teaching staff and between staff and learners.
- Ensure effective planning, resourcing, support and evaluation of work undertaken by others, ensuring clear delegation of tasks and devolution of responsibilities.
- Ensure that up to date job descriptions are in place for all staff in conjunction with the
Director of People and Business Operations.
- Supervise and participate in the performance management of all staff and hold staff to account for their professional conduct and practice.
- Motivate, empower and enable the teaching and support staff to develop expertise in their respective roles by use of high quality continuing professional development training within school and beyond.
- Ensure that all staff are fully aware of safeguarding procedures and that these are rigorously implemented.

Body to secure and sustain effective teaching and learning throughout the schools.
