Assistant Milker

Sherborne, United Kingdom G N Bartlett Full time

We are looking for a **reliable assistant milker **to join our friendly team in **Sherborne, Dorset**.

**About Us**:
We milk 600 autumn calving cows on a modern 50-point rotary parlour, twice a day. The herd is quiet, sociable and easy to handle, made up of mainly British Friesian crosses. We aim to graze the cows as long as possible, typically March to October, utilising grass in the productive months.

Our calving block is August to November, and we calve outdoors where the weather permits. Due to the calving block nature, workload is typically lighter in the Spring and early Summer, with the workload increasing when we begin calving mid August.

**Your Role**:
You will work as part of a team to complete the morning and afternoon milking, reporting to the Herd Manager (or 2IC where the Herd Manager is unavailable). Depending on the rota, this may include yard work including yard scraping and bedding up (cubicles).

Throughout the year, you will assist with general aspects of cow management, including the likes of vet routines.

During calving, you will assist with all aspects including, but not limited to:

- monitoring and intervening with cow calving (where necessary)
- calf tagging, colostrum bagging and navel dipping
- rearing of beef calves (sold off farm at around 3 weeks of age)

During serving, as we use DIY AI, you will assist in heat detection and drafting cows for service.

Opportunities and responsibilities will increase as you demonstrate your abilities and performance in the role.

**You**:
Good sense of humour and enthusiasm essential. Some experience preferred but not essential as training can be provided.

Pay to be discussed and will be based on experience.

**Salary**: £8.73 per hour

**Benefits**:

- Casual dress
- On-site parking

Schedule:

- Weekend availability

Work authorisation:

- United Kingdom (required)
