**Role Summary**:
We are looking for a fun, motivated, enthusiastic, reliable and adaptable play co-ordinator who is passionate about play and understands the essential role it has in children and young people’s lives.
The play co-ordinator will support and facilitate meaningful and productive child-initiated play during the school day in accordance with the play policy, derived from the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Primary Programme.
- To establish and lead a play team; organising and supervising staff working during the playtimes and lunchtimes, so as to ensure the safety, general welfare and proper conduct of pupils during these periods.
- To organise and supervise a range of appropriate play activities for pupils to ensure a well-planned and exciting play offer.
**Responsibilities**:
**Organisation and supervision of the play team**
- Ensure that all play team staff are completing their main duties to a high standard and that all staff are facilitating play development.
- Plan the work of the play team to ensure that all lunchtime tasks are covered daily, including timetabling of roles, cover for absences etc, identifying skills/aptitudes of the members of the play team.
- Plan and organise weekly/regular team briefings for the play team on organisational arrangements.
- Plan and organise termly planning and development play team meetings, reporting to the curriculum lead for play.
**Organisation and supervision of play activities**
- Lead the play team to ensure all children have access to exciting play opportunities at lunchtime.
- Ensure a diverse range of playable resources are provided for, and are accessible to, all children
- Assess play areas for risks daily and communicate/implement any changes required including the checking and disposal of loose parts.
- Check the quality and condition of resources and repair or remove any resources that are not of a suitable condition.
- Plan and organise putting out and packing away of play equipment/kit at lunchtimes.
- Ensure resources are stored appropriately.
- Ensure there are sufficient resources to promote each of the ‘play types’ as listed in the play policy.
- Discuss resources with the children (school council) and use their views to create development plans
**Organisation and supervision of resources (alongside Curriculum Lead for play)**
- Source loose parts and other play equipment.
- Purchasing resources as required.
- Collecting resources from sources such as local shops/builder merchants.
- Work with the site manager and health and safety co-ordinators to ensure that all children have a safe site for play eg writing risk-benefit assessments and periodic site inspections.
- Plan and lead termly play assemblies to communicate with pupils eg any new initiatives/play plans etc.
- Organise professional development training for the play team eg play activities, first aid, networking with other OPAL schools etc.
- Induct and train members of the play team and monitor their performance through the school’s performance management process.
- Identify and recommend solutions to issues of an operational or organisational nature to the deputy headteacher or headteacher as appropriate.
**In addition**:
- Participate in the OPAL team meetings and develop and implement the OPAL action plan.
- To be aware of the needs and interests of children when engaging with them and be a good role model.
- To ensure the safety of all pupils inside and outside of the school building
- To be aware of Child Protection procedures, to understand the necessary protocols and to communicate any concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Leader.
- To be aware of the school’s policies and procedures on Accidents, Behaviour, Play, Health and Safety, Inclusion and to incorporate these into everyday practice.
- To attend all training and meetings as reasonably required for you to undertake your role, as agreed with the Headteacher
- To be approachable and accessible to all pupils, ensuring that all interactions are professional and focus on the child’s needs.
- To maintain confidentiality about home

- To act as an ambassador for the school, celebrating its ethos and achievements
- To complete any other task as reasonably directed by the Line Manager
**Knowledge, experience and training**:
Essential:
- Prior experience of working with children in an educational or playwork setting is essential.
- Relevant qualifications or experience of working with children.
- Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and processes.
Desirable:
- Playwork Level 2 or above.
- First aid qualifications
- Have an understanding of and research the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Primary Programme.
