**About the role**:
The Department of Psychology are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Research Associate to lead on a range of innovative epi-/genetics projects related to an ERC/UKRI-funded 5-year project on BrainHealth.

The project, led by Dr Esther Walton, aims to map how epigenetic changes in blood track how our brain ages. Whereas most studies to date have focused on the issue of ageing from the ages 40 or 50 onwards, this work will take a novel approach looking at the ageing process right across people’s life courses - from birth to death.

In particular, you will consider the links between epigenetic ageing and mental health. A substantial body of research suggests that mental health conditions reduce life expectancy (by up to 20 years), yet less is currently known about what role changes in the brain play in that.

We have one vacancy available offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed-term basis. The post is funded for 37 months.

**About you**:

- A PhD in Psychology or related discipline
- Extensive experience in epi-/genetic data analysis (genomicSEM, multivariable Mendelian Randomization, GWAS/EWAS)
- Experience and interest in conducting research in developmental psychopathology
- Experience with R programming, advanced statistical and epi-/genetic skills
- Excellent team working, communication, and time management skills

Previous experience working successfully in an international and collaborative setting is highly desirable.

**Further information**:
This is a highly collaborative project. We will work together with collaborators at Cardiff University as well as international colleagues at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam (The Netherlands), and the National Institute of Mental Health (Czech Republic).

**What we can offer you**:

- a very generous employer contributory pension scheme
- generous annual leave allowance with an additional 5 discretionary days so that you can enjoy a positive work life balance
- we are a family-friendly University and with an increasingly agile workforce, are open to flexible working arrangements
- an excellent reward package that recognises the talents of our diverse workforce
- a wide range of personal and professional development opportunities
- a number of support options available for new and existing staff to help with the cost of some immigration expenses which you may be eligible for: Relocation allowance, Visa Reimbursement, Interest-Free Loan.

We are very proud to be an autism friendly university and are an accredited Disability Confident Leader; committed to building disability confidence and supporting disabled staff.
