**The Role**

The Pension & Benefits Specialist is based in London will join the EMEA Benefits team as a Senior Consultant, reporting to the EMEA Benefits Manager.

This role will have primary responsibility for the development, communication, and administration of pension and benefit programs for Northern Trust’s operations in EMEA including the support of relevant pension plan trustee/governance boards & committees.

**Description**
- In conjunction with appointed consultants/advisers, provide pension secretarial and pension scheme management services to pension plan trustee boards
- Manages and develops the EMEA pensions governance structure including implementing and maintaining best practice models
- Develop ongoing pension strategy road-map and related policies
- Analyses current benefits compared to market trends and legislative/regulatory requirements and ensures all plans are in compliance with legislated requirements. Undertakes reviews of benefit competitiveness and recommends changes to policies, practices and benefit design as appropriate
- Responsible for direct interaction with governing committees and senior management
- Undertakes due diligence and integration and implementation exercises as part of M&A/TUPE activity
- Directs and oversees outsourced vendor activities in accordance with corporate vendor management policies and requirements and manages a range of professional advisers
- Responsible for Benefit cost centre Budgeting
- Knowledge and understanding of EMEA pension (DC & DB) practices
- Knowledge and understanding of EMEA benefits practices
- Strong project management and organisational skills
- Experience with senior management level presentations (preparation and delivery)
- Experience of working in matrix structure such as global teams
- Experience of Vendor Management
- Willing to drive/lead a discussion and to probe/question information and data
- Able to multi-task
- Risk Management awareness
- Strong research and interpretation skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability/Willingness to learn/adapt to new systems and programs

**The competencies that would be valuable for this role include**:

- Knowledge and understanding of UK and Channel Islands pension governance/regulatory environment (Ireland knowledge would be an additional plus)
- Knowledge and experience of working with pension scheme trustees, management companies and brokers/ consultants
- Consulting and client servicing skills, ability to inform and influence senior management
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong judgement
- Ability to synthesise data/complex messages
- Ability to work independently
