We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate in HIV-host Interactions to join the hard-working team at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, led by Peijun Zhang, professor of Structural Biology.

You will be responsible for managing the project day-to-day, including both design and action of strategies in molecular biology, protein biochemistry and structural studies using cryoEM/ET and other appropriate methods. You will use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment, and provide training to others in its use, as required. In addition, you will test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate, as well as contributing to the overall development of our programme and to preparation for the next stages in research.

For this role, it is essential that you have, or are close to the completion of, a PhD/DPhil in structural and functional studies of proteins and protein complexes. You will have research experience in production and purification of proteins for structure/function studies using mammalian and/or E. coli expression systems. It is essential that you are able to manage the day-to-day running of a research project including assisting the work of junior researchers, and you will also have research experience in cryoEM/cryoET, both experimental and computational or experience in structural biology, including protein biochemistry and X-ray crystallography.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract until 31 May 2024 and is funded by the Wellcome Trust.
