You will be working closely with the children, providing encouragement and supervision for the duration of the club, ensuring the safety, welfare, physical and mental wellbeing of pupils and that the provision offers a wide range of activities in a relaxed, informal and caring environment, whilst maintaining good order and discipline.

**Place of work**: Primary School (N1 9JF)

**Working hours**:
Working 35 weeks of the year part-time and 13 weeks of the year full-time. This is a permanent position.

**Main Areas of Responsibility**

Your responsibilities will be:

- To successfully manage all support staff including performance management, managing staff ratios, organising cover for planned and emergency absence.
- To establish and maintain positive relationships with all professionals involved with the After school and Holiday Club, including, but not limited to, school office, catering staff, teachers, SLT.
- The day-to-day management of the setting. To take specific responsibility for the management, organisation and running of the Afterschool Club and Holiday provision, to ensure that parents and carers are provided with high quality childcare for their children.
- To maintain a safe, creative and stimulating environment for children’s play experiences.
- To prepare the planning of a programme of activities designed to meet the needs of the children, including booking trips and transport, where appropriate. To manage and organise the Afterschool and Holiday Provision.
- To ensure that responsibilities and duties are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety, Child Protection and Safeguarding policies and within the Equal Opportunities framework.
- To ensure all policies are adhered to.
- To establish and maintain positive relationships with children and their families in a way that values parental involvement.
- To provide a service that respects children’s life experiences and celebrates diversity in terms of language, culture, ability, race and religion.
- To be responsible for the setting resources and report loss/damage or low stock levels to the relevant staff and to request/order resources needed in a reasonable time frame.
- To ensure that all children are registered and remain on the premises at all times except during organised trips and outings or by special arrangement with the parent/carer. e.g., on trips and outings, children are still the responsibility of The Gower School and a register must be kept of all children.
- To form and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children, young people, staff, volunteers, parents and carers.
- To provide a creative programme of arts, crafts, games, sports, drama, music, off-site activities relevant to the needs and interests of all children, regardless of their race, religion, culture or language, physical or mental ability.
- To be responsible for Health and Safety issues at the Afterschool and Holiday Club with regard to clearing, setting up and running activities - both indoor and outdoor, trips, outings and general risk assessment.
- To follow first aid procedures including keeping records of all accidents and the treatments given.
- To implement our school behaviour management policy at all times within the Afterschool and Holiday Club.

**Qualifications & Experience**

Qualifications, Knowledge and Training
- NVQ3 or equivalent qualification in relevant discipline (Playworker or Childcare) (**Essential**)
- Designated Safeguarding Lead (**Desirable**)
- Paediatric First Aid qualification (**Desirable**)
- Good numeracy/literacy skills

**Experience**
- Experience in a similar role or working within a school setting

- Ability to plan and lead excellent games and activities for the children.
- Good communication skills;
- Reliable, good timekeeper;
- Genuinely likes and enjoys being with children;
- Enthusiastic, patient and caring;
- Knowledge of issues and general procedures around Child Protection and Safeguarding;
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, carers and children;
- To be fit and healthy and have enough energy to carry out all the tasks involved;
- Sense of humour, enthusiasm and imagination.
- Practical arts, crafts, sports and/or games skills.
- An ability to take responsibility for tasks without direct supervision.
- An ability to work with young people with a wide range of support needs.
- A commitment to treating people equally and with a respect for diversity.
- An ability to work well with others.
- An ability to work flexibly.
- A commitment to putting the needs of students first.
- Ability to Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people
- Appreciates the significance of safeguarding and interprets this accurately for all individual children and young people whatever their life circumstances.
- Shows a personal commitment to and has a good understanding of the safeguarding agenda.
