**Job Title: Science Teacher**

**Location: The Shires - Oakham, LE15 6JB**

**Salary: £28,000 - £38,000 depending on experience**

**Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday**

**Contract: Permanent, Term Time only**

Due to growth in service, we are looking for a Science Teacher who has an understanding of and desire to work with children and young people with Autism to help break down barriers to learning and ensure a smooth transition into adulthood when they leave The Shires.

Experience of closing the gaps for disadvantaged and SEND pupils would be beneficial as you would be supporting autistic teenagers that have struggled throughout their school journey to achieve their academic and life goals.

We use an “in their own time and space” philosophy to support our pupils to navigate their lives. We focus on understanding behaviour for communication and use this to help support their social and emotional development. We have a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible.

**About us**

The Shires at Stretton and The Shires at Oakham are two Independent Special Schools that cater for children and young people 11-19 with Autism, learning disabilities and other associated needs.

The Shires at Stretton provides education alongside 24-hour residential care, pupils living and learning on the same site. Pupils that attend The Shires at Stretton have Autism and SLD and are taught in small class groups (4/5 pupils), all pupils having at least 1:1 support. The Shires at Oakham is a day only school providing education for pupils with Autism and SLD/MLD. Pupils are taught in small class groups (4/5 pupils), all pupils having at least 1:1 support.

For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care and education to children, young people and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties.
