**The Role**

Sheffield Forgemasters is an iconic heavy engineering company which is capable of producing the largest and most technically challenging cast and forged steel components in the world from its manufacturing facilities in Sheffield.

In 2021 the business was acquired by the UK Ministry of Defence which secured its role as a critical supplier to the next generation of UK defence programmes and is currently embarking upon a substantial recapitalisation project to modernise its plant and equipment over the next 10 years.

Sheffield Forgemasters is currently looking for a Test House Machinist, who will be working within our Test House Department.

As a Test House machinist at Sheffield Forgemasters you will be involved in the preparation of test specimens from sawn test blanks to support the release of components in the manufacturing units.

**The main duties of the role are as follows**:

- Read, understand and adhere to all relevant Risk Assessments and Safe Working Procedures to ensure that all tasks are conducted safely.
- Ensure that worksheet instructions/technical drawings are understood and followed.
- Receipt of test blanks and confirmation of identification.
- Operation of cut-off machine.
- Operation of heat treatment furnaces as required.
- Manual Lathe and CNC lathe machining of tensile test pieces.
- Milling and broaching of Charpy impact test specimens.
- Monitoring of test specimen dimensional accuracy.
- Maintenance of Identity by paint/stamping/marking.
- Occasional van driving for material pick-up/drop off
- Light machining training/experience
- Manual and CNC lathe operation
- Manual and CNC milling machine operation
- Knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace
- Good understanding of imperial and metric measurements
- Extensive light machining training/experience
- Good team working and communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions and confidence to raise any issues or concerns
- Attention to detail
- Neat and methodical approach
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Flexibility and willingness to work overtime if required
- Understanding of metrology and ability to perform basic checks and measurements
- Band Saw Operation
- Fork Lift driving licence

**Days/Hours of Work**:
37.5 hours per week

Monday - Friday 07:45 - 16:00
