Horsham Matters is a Christian charity that aims to demonstrate love of our neighbour by relieving hardship through the provision of essential services (food, fuel and shelter) in order to make a positive, long-lasting impact on people’s lives.

Our charity is run by local staff and volunteers who care passionately about providing practical help and support to anyone in need, irrespective of their background or circumstances.

We work proactively with local partners including churches, government and specialist agencies to develop sustainable solutions which improve wellbeing.

**Finance Trustee at Horsham Matters**

We are a Christian Charity based in Horsham seeking to expand our current Board of Trustees. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed person, ideally with a strong Finance background, an understanding of Charity finance and/or accounts who can assist us in setting financial strategy and in providing oversight and governance over our financial processes and procedures.

**Role of a trustee**

Charity trustees have responsibility for the governance and strategy of the charity. This includes ensuring our charity is carrying out its purposes and managing resources for public benefit, and is meeting all legal obligations. At Horsham Matters, whilst day to day management is delegated to the Managing Director, all trustees have a shared responsibility to oversee the direction of the charity providing support and guidance and holding management accountable as required.

**Person Specification**

**Essential**

A committed Christian and regular attender of a Church

A commitment to champion the services of Horsham Matters, uphold our charitable objectives and demonstrate our Christian ethos and values

Understanding and empathy with the work of Horsham Matters

To be an active Board member, dedicating time to attending meetings and diligently reviewing and responding to information as required.

Ability to analyse information, use independent judgement and a willingness to challenge constructively when necessary

An ability to work professionally and respectfully as a member of a team, making collective decisions which support the vision and aims of the charity

A commitment to equality and diversity

A commitment to ongoing training and development

**This position will require a DBS check.**

**Desirable skills**

Accountancy qualification

Experience of finance management and strategy

Understanding of charity finance regulations

**Commitment**

Approx. 3-4 hours per month

Board meetings are monthly, generally outside of work hours, as well as attendance at the Charity’s annual strategy day.

Attendance at other ad hoc events such as the HCT Forum, or internal charity social activities may be requested but are optional, depending on your availability.
