**Why this role is important for CPI’s work**:
CPI has excellent in-house facilities for rapid prototyping, testing and validation of products for the medical device or Health-Tech markets. We specialise in new and innovative technology development and we are looking for an Assembly Operator to join our growing multidisciplinary team of Scientists, Engineers and Technicians to work on a wide variety of different and interesting projects. In this role you would work within the Integrated Engineering team who are part of CPI’s HealthTech Business Unit based at NETPark Sedgefield, where our print and assembly laboratories are equipped for the manufacture and test of prototype devices.

The team plays a key role in providing expertise in the device design, manufacture, assembly and test to support the development of the new HealthTech strategy and gets to work on the development of industrial devices, regulatory devices, health-tech devices and products aimed at the HealthTech market. You will be working in a multi-project environment where we help our clients to realise their product ideas from concept through to pilot manufacturing and all stages between. The role will involve using a mixture of established and novel techniques, and you will be able to develop your knowledge and skills across a broad range of processes.

**The Role**

The Assembly Operator is a varied role involving both manual assembly tasks and some semi-automated builds where you will be required to assemble and test electronic products to specification on a variety of projects to meet business objectives. You will have the opportunity to work on new technology projects which evolve over time, enabling you to develop new skills and learn new processes. Key tasks in the role will include (but are not limited to) the below:

- To carry out both manual and automated assembly on both ridged and flexible circuits, testing and fault finding on prototype parts, collaborating with colleagues to find robust, production-ready solutions.
- To provide clearly documented records of the assembly process. provide reports and recommendations to customers and clients, and maintain consistent and documented compliance with all relevant Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE), quality and best practice requirements.
- To liaise with other teams on agreeing on the correct design and peer review.
- To operate both manual and automated pick and place toolsets, manual and automated dispensing toolsets, visual inspection toolsets and mechanical and electrical test toolsets.
- To write work reports and make improvement recommendations.
- To actively engage in hazard studies / SRA studies and discussions, as appropriate to role level.
- To set up, plan and execute experimental / pilot scale runs and analyse, interpret and report the results of these, translating obtained findings and knowledge.
- To produce clearly documented records of technical data, decisions, methodologies, calculations and software use in an appropriate format.
- To troubleshoot issues to identify root cause of problems, rectifying or escalating as appropriate. Where applicable, act as Tool Owner or Deputy Tool Owner, acting as first point of contact for queries.
- An appetite to learn and develop within the role, with the assistance of senior colleagues, is essential.

**The person we are seeking**:
It is essential you are either educated to GSCE (or Level 2 equivalent) in a Scientific/Engineering discipline plus significant industrial experience, educated to A level (or Level 3 equivalent) in a Scientific/Engineering discipline plus relevant industrial experience or educated to HNC level (or Level 4 equivalent in Scientific/Engineering discipline. You should also:

- Have good attention to detail, hold manual dexterity skills and have the confidence to use own judgement and initiative within routine activities, as well as an understanding of when to seek advice from manager or colleagues.
- Be able to exhibit basic knowledge of principles and practices in device assembly, as well as some relevant experience of practical, technical-based work gained in academic or industrial environments.
- Be an enthusiastic and motivated team worker.
