Job Title: Caretaker/Groundsman

Reports to: The Bursar

**Salary**: Competitive

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (to be worked between 7am to 6pm in shifts) including overtime at evenings and weekends during busy periods.

**Job Type**: Permanent, Full time (can be part-time)

**Key Responsibilities**:
The Caretaker has the following core duties:
a) Daily maintenance and facilities tasks in and around the school premises, providing assistance when requested by staff to set up rooms, hall for hot lunch, move equipment, clean up after pupil illness or accidents etc. and generally facilitate the smooth running of the daily operations.

b) Security of the school premises, ensuring all doors and gates are locked at the appropriate time and completing a security sweep of the property before locking up each evening.

c) Supporting the set up or clearance of rooms for out of hours functions, either during the week or occasionally over the weekend.

d) Undertake internal health and safety checks and keeping the grounds clear and safe for Play or general movement of pupils, staff, parents or visitors.

e) Act as a Response Person/Fire Marshall in case of Fire or Emergency, assisting with the safe evacuation and liaising where necessary with the Emergency Services.

f) Working together on larger jobs requiring greater manpower with the Caretaking Team.

g) Liaising with maintenance contractors visiting the school to complete essential work.

h) Jointly responsible with the Caretaking Team for ensuring the minibuses are ready for use on a daily basis, visual safety checks, cleaning, refuelling, and parking.

i) Controlling traffic in the car park

j) Jointly responsible with the Caretaking Team to complete and evidence the regular daily, weekly and termly property and grounds checks.

k) In School Holiday time additional focus is placed on larger project improvement works, classroom refurbishment, decorating, grounds repairs etc.

l) All work must be taken with strict adherence to health and safety regulations and guidance, for which appropriate training will be provided by the school.

m) Providing cover on school days (between 7am to 6pm), and for evening and weekend functions with the rest of the team. This will include working alternative work patterns as required

n) Attending emergency call outs when required

**Person specification**

They are organised, prioritising the workload accordingly with adherence to child safety at all times.

Handyman skills for woodwork, decorating, general DIY, plumbing. Clean Driving licence.

Enthusiastic and passionate in ensuring the school runs smoothly.

Ability to work additional hours (evenings and weekends) as necessary dependent upon the operational requirements of the School.

Be able to attend training courses offsite when necessary.

**Benefits**:
Paid holiday entitlement for full time position is 5 weeks per year, excluding Bank Holidays.

The School operates a pension scheme which all non-teaching members of staff are eligible to join and to which the School and the member of staff both contribute.
