Stakeholder Senior Lead

Warwick, United Kingdom National Grid Full time

**About the role**:
Great Britain's electricity system is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.

As a Senior Stakeholder Lead in the REMA Programme, you work at the forefront of the energy transition and have a central role in delivering decarbonisation.

This team leads ESO’s work on the Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA). REMA represents the most far-reaching review of energy market arrangements for the last 20 years. Sitting at the nexus between government policy, the market interface and the physical operation of the system, ESO has exceptional visibility of the challenges facing GB as it decarbonises and is an important partner and stakeholder in the REMA process.

Sitting within our newly-formed REMA Governance, Implementation & Stakeholder sub-team, the postholder will help to develop and maintain the team’s Stakeholder Engagement Plan, as well as leading our engagement with a range of organisations across the energy industry.

This role can be based from Warwick, Wokingham or Glasgow, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

**About us**:
At National Grid ESO, our mission is to meet the challenges of the future and deliver cleaner, affordable electricity. We constantly strive to do this better by using technology and innovation to transform the way we work.

**Becoming the National Energy System Operator**

In Summer of 2024, the ESO will transition to becoming the National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator will be the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.

The ESO, including all of its existing roles, will be at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users’ need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them.

The organisation will be set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As the ESO are today, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.

The time to deliver is now. As part of our team, you won’t just be touching the lives of almost everyone in Great Britain - you’ll be shaping the way we use and consume energy for generations to come.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Influence the strategic direction of the organisation’s external engagement on REMA topics, based on the feedback received from stakeholders.
- Translate complex and multifaceted concepts into engaging material for a range of audiences, to enhance the interaction with our external stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to the development of GB’s new electricity market arrangements.
- Represent the REMA Programme team in person at all stakeholder events, leading virtual teams to ensure alignment on key messages internally.
- Form, and maintain, strong relationships with key external stakeholders, taking ownership of the risks and responsibilities associated with these relationships.
- Deliver internal and external-facing engagement including writing material for publication across multiple platforms and providing internal briefings from senior management.
- Establish yourself as the REMA Programme team’s expert on stakeholder engagement and communication, education peers and senior managers while providing mentorship and guidance to junior team members.

**About you**:
What we do isn’t just important - it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who:

- Experience of developing, and maintaining, key relationships with external stakeholders the energy industry.
- An awareness of the issues faced in GB electricity markets and how these are being addressed by policy-makers and the energy regulator.
- An ability to foster a stakeholder-first mindset in the organisation, setting the tone for the team’s relationship with the industry.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate key messages and complex issues to internal and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional influencing and negotiation skills.
- Excellent organisational, problem-solving and project manag
