Cargo Underwriter (Level 2)

We are looking to employ a Cargo Underwriter to be based in Maidstone and to work with us on a full-time basis.

The Role
- Undertaking end-to-end handling for the allocated portfolio to deliver the agreed joint business development plans in line with the Company’s overall trading strategy.
- Make effective decisions, within delegated authority, for allocated intermediaries so that work is completed efficiently.
- Working with the underwriting team, develop strong relationships with allocated intermediaries, balancing intermediary needs with the Company’s trading objective in a way that will deliver profitable and balanced trading growth.
- Plan and process own work in a way that will assist the team to meet its customer service targets including credit control targets.
- Identify, define and close business opportunities, seeking the input of other members of staff where appropriate, to ensure that business proposals are dealt with swiftly and effectively, securing business for the Company.
- Act as a reference point on all issues for the allocated intermediary/customer or less experienced staff, so that a high level of customer service is delivered.
- Assist in maintaining a balanced and high quality portfolio, optimising the use of information gathered.
- Other ad-hoc tasks as required by the business
- Undertake other duties as directed within the level of the job function.
- Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
- Understand all appropriate lines of escalation and the responsibilities of the Product Conduct Risk Strategy Group (PCRSG), Underwriting & Claims Sub Committee (UCSC), ExCo and Board for Conduct Risk.
- This role has a direct impact on our customers’ satisfaction and how they perceive the quality of our products and services. You must therefore adhere to the following principles:
- Work closely with all areas of the business and external stakeholders to help deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
- Understand all appropriate lines of escalation, working closely with and understanding the responsibilities of the Product Conduct Risk Strategy Group (PCRSG), Compliance, Delegated Underwriting Authority Management team, Underwriting & Claims Sub Committee (UCSC), ExCo and Board for Conduct Risk.

An individual to achieve and maintain a profitable, well balanced and growing portfolio with allocated intermediaries and customers to assist in meeting long term trading objectives of the Company.

Key Skills & Experience
- Industry knowledge of the Cargo and Freight market
- Proven knowledge and understanding of all company specific procedures that relate to own role and role of those employees that you are supervising
- Excellent organisational skills
- Proven grasp of data analysis and performance metrics
- Ability to problem solve quickly and proactively
- FCA principle-based regulation and relevant insurance law
- Lloyds Minimum Standards

**Qualifications**:

- University Degree and/or relevant professional qualification
