**Trauma Informed Practitioner - Project Worker 2**

Permanent contract with Barnardo's, although funding is initially confirmed until March 2025. Secondment Opportunities will be considered. Part-time working would be considered.

**Location of Post**:Working across the West Midlands Region.

Base: A flexible blend of home working and from Barnardo's offices in Halesowen (B63 3AB).

**Project Name: Trauma Informed: - From Awareness to Action**.

This project seeks to support the West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership, in developing organisations across the West Midlands to consider and adopt trauma informed practice. The aim is for the organisations to become aware of

the impact of childhood adversity and trauma, and to develop their practice, to begin to work towards becoming trauma sensitive and informed. This is at the level of both individual practitioners and organisational culture. Additionally,

efforts to co-ordinate strategic commitments to trauma-informed working are more likely to ensure organisational culture can be transformed where necessary. These efforts can then contribute to a reduction in the likelihood of children/young people becoming involved in crime and violence throughout their lives and improving their future outcomes.

**Wider project aims and objectives.**

**Objective 1**:Understand the current systems and processes for responding to childhood adversity and trauma related issues and the opportunities for change across all agencies.

**Objective 2**:Collaborate with organisations and practitioners to develop their operational delivery, using learning from models of trauma informed practice, to become more effective in responding to adversity (and secondary prevention) as

part of a commitment to the prevention agenda.

**Objective 3**:Develop organisations and partners to deliver prompt, positive action that is efficient and effective within the models of trauma informedpractice.

**Role responsibilities**

Working within the trauma informed team, this position will focus on the development and adoption of trauma informed practice across a multiagency workforce. This will include delivery and development of training around

childhood adversity and Trauma Informed Practice, operational engagement and consultation, and delivery with key partners/agencies and stakeholders. The main focus area will be around supporting the development of an education pilot

across three educational settings, in addition to providing support to West Midlands Police:

- Promote and advocate the compelling mandate for trauma sensitive and trauma responsive practice and its importance in prevention of negative outcomes as a result of childhood trauma.
- Develop and deliver training around childhood adversity, trauma and trauma informed practice.
- To provide emotionally intelligent responses to support the emotional safety of professionals and participants.
- Build, maintain and manage effective and influential relationships with a wide range of colleagues across regional settings.
- To provide support to organisations in consolidating and embedding learning.
- Ensure evaluation data collection and processing.
- Work closely with the VRP navigators and training facilitators to ensure that the offer is part of an integrated set of activities across a local system aimed at reducing serious youth violence.
- Develop an understanding of the current systems and processes for responding to trauma and the opportunities for change across the system.
- Develop and deliver as appropriate a bespoke response to workforce development needs in relation to trauma.
- Support the Senior Trauma Informed Practitioner to ensure that prevention of elements of adversity, and strong responses to it, are operational priorities for agencies and are being actively addressed.

**Supplementary Information**
- Good working knowledge of childhood adversity (ACEs) and TraumaInformed approaches is required.
- Experience and confidence in delivering training is an essential requirement of this role.
- Experience and knowledge of partnership working is essential, including confidence to respectfully challenge practice.

- Ability to travel across the West Midlands locality to deliver direct training and consultation is required
