**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Position Summary**
Within Model Development, the Cyber Risk Modelling team is tasked to develop world-class risk models for cyber threats, thus providing comprehensive solutions to our Clients.
The role presents a unique opportunity to work on novel modelling ideas and methods which can have a real impact in the development of cyber insurance markets. This will further advance RMS’ central position as a leading provider of scientific understanding and quantification of digital catastrophe risk.
**Essential Job Functions**
The successful applicant will perform research and development work into threat actors, cyber incidents, corporate defences, software and human vulnerabilities, and digital exposures. S/he will work very closely with other mathematical modelers, data scientists, and computational scientists to assess the feasibility and relevance of existing and new cyber risks, in terms of data sources and mathematical modelling.
The objectives during the first several months include:
- Understand the current modelling framework of RMS’ Cyber Risk Model.
- Understand data sources of cyber threat incidents and assess their quality and quantity.
- Characterize and assess suitable mathematical, statistical and data science methods to be used in developing stochastic cyber models.
- Validate key findings with team members and provide insights to ensure high product quality.
- Participate with expertise and insights in the design and development of the next generation of cyber risk modelling.
**Minimum Qualifications**
- Strong mathematical and statistical foundation.
- Experience working on large and complex datasets.
- Demonstrated success in developing sophisticated models using advanced mathematics, statistics, or data science in industrial or academic environments.
- Strong ability in computing languages such as Julia, R, or Python.
- Ability to communicate analysis results and insights effectively both internally and with external business partners.
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Previous experience in cyber risk assessment and analysis, and modelling economic impacts of disasters.
- Security related certification, such as CISSP, GIAC, CompTIA Security+.
- Demonstrated success and ability in working closely with cross functional teams to embed information security within corporate and cloud environments. Particularly interesting experience incudes:
- Providing insight and guidance for security assessments to ensure compliance with information security policies and established security controls.
- Managing vulnerability assessment and asset management lifecycle.
- Designing assessments through penetration testing and ethical hacking, then analyzing security risks and evaluating mitigating and compensating security controls.
- Analyzing network traffic patterns, system logs, SIEM and endpoint security tools for unusual or suspicious activity.
- Proven ability to manage priorities and deadlines and to work independently in a highly dynamic and diverse environment with multiple concurrent goals and with a diverse team of mathematical modelers and data scientists.
- Experience and interest in the re/insurance business domain.
