Sheffield, United Kingdom Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team of Clinical Scientists and Practitioners in the Specialist Scientific Physiological Services (SSPS) section, which is ideally suited to begin your NHS career in the physiological sciences.

As a team we lead upon a diverse range of long established physiological measurement clinical services for the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, Sheffield Children's Hospital and surrounding district general hospitals.

This post will be focused upon the clinical services for multimode intraoperative monitoring for the spinal cord during orthopaedic spine deformity correction surgery and pedobarography foot pressure measurement clinics.

As we are a highly skilled area you will get support and be mentored into success. There are opportunities for promotions, training, personal study and courses you can attend to gain knowledge and qualifications to aid your practice and maintain high standards.

Dependent upon experience we may offer the post starting at band 5, which after subsequent training maybe upgraded to band 6.

Undertake a detailed competency based training scheme to progressively develop theoretical and practical expertise to achieve the skillset essential to work within the following clinical services.

**SCE Group (MIOM)**: multimode intraoperative monitoring for the spinal cord during complex spine deformity correction. This role will involve working in theatres with patients under general anaesthetic to measure evoked potentials, utilising the latest technology and techniques to consistently deliver high quality MIOM. Spinal cord monitoring has been used by the orthopaedic spine surgeons since 1989, which has helped establish us as an integral part of the surgical theatre team at both the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Northern General Hospital.

**BEF Group (FP)**: using a foot pressure measurement system perform tests to help investigate foot disorders. This role will involve working in clinics and sharing clinical results with consultant clinicians. The FP service is another example of a long established service, with many previous innovations and refinement of practice to shape the current process for scientific investigation and collaboration with clinical colleagues.

You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.

The Specialist Scientific Physiological Services (SSPS) section brings together teams of Clinical Scientists and Practitioners delivering a diverse range of highly specialist services in five primary areas: Biomechanical Evaluation and Function (BEF), Vision Science (VS), Audiological Science (AS), Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) and Spinal Cord Electrophysiology (SCE). Each section provides services to other directorates as well as other NHS Foundation Trusts via a series of service level agreements and external contracts.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK and has a strong reputation for innovation and development of services.
