Netherby Hall is a privately owned Grade II* listed manor house close to the Scottish Border, offering exclusive guest accommodation set within 36 acres of fabulous parklands. The Hall is steeped in history, dating back to the 16th century, and the site has undergone exciting transformations over recent years.

We are looking for a motivated trained gardener to undertake the maintenance and care of our wonderful gardens, consisting of Rhododendron beds, herbaceous borders and climbers and roses in our restored walled garden, seasonal pot displays, stumpery, small woodland, ponds and a rill.

This is an opportunity for someone to make their mark and showcase their horticultural knowledge and attention to detail in the care of plants, trees and grounds. You will be part of a small team of five and be responsible for all ornamental areas of the gardens outside and within the walled garden from mulching, planting, pruning, weeding, edging, strimming, bulb planting and some propagation. A knowledge of small woodland management is essential as well as keen interest in organic principals and biodiversity. Predominantly, you will be responsible for your own area with the help of other members of staff when required. You will need to be confident in planning your own work schedule and work with the Head Gardener to achieve the highest standards for Netherby Hall and our guests. A keen interest in vegetable growing is advantageous in order to occasionally help the kitchen gardeners in producing fabulous produce for our fine dining restaurant Pentonbridge Inn, which has been awarded one Michelin star.

Ideally you will have an accredited horticultural qualification with at least 3 years practical experience and hold necessary Lantra qualifications as well as experience in tractor and trailer driving, hedge cutting, strimming and chainsaws (desirable).

The gardens are undertaking some changes and this is a brilliant opportunity for a positive, motivated and knowledgeable gardener to be a part of the future of Netherby Hall.

The position is offered at £24,000 per annum (live out). The role is 40 hours per week. Weekend watering may be required on occasion.
