The appointee will work as a member of the Haematology team. It is possible that each members duties may change to adapt to changing organisational and medical practices. These will be negotiated during annual job planning sessions. The following summarise the basic duties at the present time.

**The post holder will**: - Play a key role in the general Haematology service at a busy District General Hospital. Provide inpatient, day case and out patient care for patients with haematological disorders. Will in conjunction with colleagues develop services for patients with malignant haematological disease consistent with the cancer service framework and fully participate in the multidisciplinary team meetings service to the stated hospitals for relevant problems. Provide a consultative service for general practitioners with respect to clinical haematology and laboratory investigations.

Work with relevant colleagues to provide an effective hospital blood transfusion in accordance with the principles embodied in Better Blood Transfusion Work with the Clinical Director to provide an efficient and effective Pathology service. Support the continued development of multidisciplinary professional working within the clinical and laboratory areas. Maintain registration with a licence to practice with the GMC and engage in the Trusts Appraisal and Revalidation Process. Take part in a continuing professional development scheme, e.g.

that of the Royal College of Pathologists. Share in overseeing the quality assurance of the haematology laboratory service and maintenance of UKAS. Participate in audit and support the systems of clinical governance within the Trusts. Participate in the on call duties as defined.

To provide professional cover for colleagues absence for holidays, study and sick leave. To participate in the teaching commitments of the department. To participate in the management of the department. To participate in the haematology senior staff appraisal.
