Here at the AA and as part of our Motor & Home Insurance Claims business in Tunbridge Wells, we are looking to recruit another Desktop Building Surveyor for our Household business.

The insurance claims business is predominantly based out of our Tunbridge Wells offices in Kent where we have a highly successful motor insurance claims function which has grown year on year. We expanded even further this year, by bringing our householdclaims business in-house from 01 July.

We would love to talk to people with a strong understanding of the anatomy of a building as well as a background in dealing with high cost household claims.

**This is the job** As a Desktop Building Surveyor, you will be working with the in-house Household claims teams dealing with a range of household building claims across multiple perils including, but not limited to, accidental damage, escape of water, storm, flood, burst pipesand fire.

You will assist the Household claims department, by ensuring that buildings claims are settled cost-effectively, fairly and efficiently with exceptional customer service.

As part of the role you will handle a caseload of buildings claims, repair scoping referrals, ensuring they are settled promptly, fairly and within the terms of the policy.

The job holder will also act as a technical referral point for claim handlers and so requires a great team player who can also empathise with our customers. There will be considerable liaison with the internal claims’ teams, the supplier liaison team andexternal surveyors and repair contractors.

**What will I be doing?**:

- Providing technical claims validation on building claims, providing advice and support to claims handlers
- Help up skill the claims handlers around the management of building claims.
- Determining whether damage is covered by the terms of the policy and identifying where the work relates to defects or causes not covered by the policy.
- Liaising with external independent building surveyors and repair contractors to review Variation Orders and surveyors reports where the anticipated repair cost exceeds their Delegated Authority.
- Liaise with multiple internal teams and stakeholders, including the Head of Household Claims, other senior managers as well as the claims and supply chain teams - be capable of building strong internal and external relationships to ensure claims are settledpromptly and fairly.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and be aware of the need to accommodate vulnerable customers.
- Help drive adherence to claims SLA’s and supplier KPI’s.

**What do I need?** As a Desktop Surveyor for The AA you would understand the anatomy of buildings. You will be familiar with the defects and which suitable repairs are required to fix the issue(s).

Experience of dealing with Household Claims is essential for this role.

Also, some of the things we are on the look for are:

- Experience in a similar role with an insurer, loss adjuster or building/surveyor network highly desirable.
- Demonstrable experience in dealing with building claims exceeding £15,000 essential
- Knowledge of drying techniques in domestic buildings is preferred
- A relevant building/surveying qualification desirable but not essential
- Excellent negotiations skills
- Strong stakeholder management skills
