Our client is one of the world's largest and most successful creators, producers and distributors of high quality, innovative factual and entertainment programming.
We are looking to recruit a new Head of Legal and Business Affairs as a key member of the Global Entertainment leadership team.
You will be responsible for large commercial negotiations relating to the acquisition, development and exploitation of major television formats across multiple territories and oversee the business aspects of their international roll-out. In addition, you willlead legal & business affairs across our client's international network of television production operations.
The role is based in London, but with a good degree of flexibility around hybrid working.
Key Responsibilities include:

- Advising senior management and senior executives.
- Day to day line management of the team, providing a balance of support and empowerment.
- Negotiating the commercial terms of the company's:

- multi-territory format rights acquisition agreements;
- format or format and tape output deals with format developers and format creating production companies; and
- joint venture deals with broadcasters to develop and launch new formats
and overseeing team members in the drafting and negotiation of the resulting contracts.
- Providing commercial support on deal terms for production companies acquiring formats on a single territory basis and overseeing the drafting and negotiating of format acquisition agreements.
- Playing a key role in supporting the business in managing its relationships with major format owners and other important trading partners.
- Providing commercial support to the senior legal heads in all of the business' production companies where required in their negotiation of commissioning deals.
- Oversight of legal and contractual relationships with multi-territory streaming services for non-scripted programming.
- Providing central support and supervision of certain production territories that retain their own legal function.
- Overseeing the team in managing and advising on the legal and business affairs aspects of issuing of NFT's and participation in the Metaverse.
We are looking for an experienced lawyer with substantial experience gained at a senior level in a broadcast/media environment, ideally as a senior in-house lawyer, with exposure to litigation, format licensing and production agreements and interaction withsenior executives, both creative and commercial.
You will have experience of managing and developing legal executives and considerable knowledge and experience of international media environments, including
- acquisition and licensing of television formats
- television production, ideally outside of the UK
- drafting and negotiating contracts in a content acquisition licensing environment
- detailed understanding of contract, commercial and intellectual property law and of the structures and systems within which broadcasters, producers and distributors operate
- knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework within which the business operates.
