This is an exciting opportunity to join Whittington Health to build and develop a new community Pain service in Haringey. We are seeking a committed senior practitioner psychologist with a keen interest in persistent pain management.

You will join a Pain MDT will include Pain Consultant, Pain Psychology, Pain Physiotherapy, specialist service manager and administrative staff. To provide holistic care in MDT-led team to treat persistent pain in community setting aligning using evidence-based clinical guidance. You will be offering pain psychology assessments and interventions for complex persistent pain patients (group based as well as individual).

The role involves providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment; delivering specialist pain management and other groups as needed; offering advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers.

Education/Qualifications

Essential
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) as accredited by the HCPC.
- Registration with Health professions Council (HCPC)

Skills and Abilities

Essential
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups with regard to pain management or other physical health conditions.
- Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.
- Ability to form good working relationships with others in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
- Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice.

Desirable
- Interest and ability to contribute to service development.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential
- Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community, outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.

Desirable
- High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client groups and mental health.
- Experience of specialist psychological group interventions including self-management input.
