Training included plus the chance to be involved in the annual Open Day, International Webinars (broadcast to over 70 countries) and possibly visit other Equestrian events through the year.

**Title**:Head Stud Groom

**Duration**: Fixed term or permanent role available

**Hours**: Full time - 5 days a week (Mon-Sun on a rota basis and includes one weekend day per week) from 07.00am-5pm with an unpaid hour for lunch.

**Salary**: Dependent on experience

**Reports to**:E-J Eldridge (Yard Manager) and Josh Steer (Assistant Yard Manager)

**Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities**:

- In the absence of the Yard Manager and Assistant Yard Manager, to be responsible for the overall running of the yard and over seeing staff and tasks needing completing.
- To assist with training new members of staff, and students.
- To assist with the colt livery programme, and dealing with the colts on centre alongside the Assistant Yard Manager
- Lungeing and/or riding (dependent on the requirements of individual stallions)
- To provide support with the administration tasks relating to the yard, such as maintaining records and paperwork
- To contribute ideas for social media promotions and staff motivation programmes and activities
- Speaking to stallion owners and establishing a good rapport, being knowledgeable about the stallions on site, and being able to offer information to prospective breeders
- Feeding, haying and watering horses
- Rugging horses according to weather and temperature
- Grooming and picking out horses’ feet
- Turning horses in and out of the paddocks, and taking stallions to and from horse-walker
- Mucking out stables, cleaning and sweeping the horse-walker, and keeping the feed rooms clean
- Bandaging horses
- Assist with stallion collections (full training given)
- Bathing horses and administering solarium treatment
- Helping owners to unload and load their stallions
- Ensuring the yard and barns are kept tidy and cleaned to an extremely high standard at all times
- Disinfecting stables in line with bio security measures
- Conduct themselves in a professional, helpful and welcoming manner when speaking and dealing with clients
- To ensure that stallions and other horses are weighed ideally 3 times per week during stud season, and otherwise regularly as instructed
- To ensure that health and safety procedures are carried out and to make sure that health & safety is always prioritised
- To notify the Yard Manager or Assistant Yard Manager of any changes in stallions’ wellbeing or behavior or any observations which may be cause for concern.
- Preparing and showing stallions for visiting mare owners and having a good knowledge of the stallions in residence
- Holding stallions and mares for the vet, dentist, physio, saddler and farrier
- Assist team with showcasing stallions for stallion webinars, facebook live and other media platforms when required
- Helping to prepare the premises and horses for events such as open days and stallion shows
- Ensuring farrier records are maintained
- Checking and well being of horses living out
- Administer basic veterinary treatments as directed when necessary
- Occasionally assist with general property maintenance when needed (such as removing weeds)

**Personal Specification**:
Capable and confident in handling stallions/spirited horses/colts

Experience of caring for horses

Experienced in horse riding on a variety of horses (including competition horses and/or youngsters) and confident in all paces

Superb customer service skills

Great attention to detail

Excellent communication skills

Excellent team player

Ability to work on own initiative

Good at problem solving

‘Can do’ attitude and flexible approach to the workplace

Will enjoy working outdoors in varied weather conditions

Will be conscientious and diligent

Ideally some previous management/supervisor experience

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent, Temporary contract

Pay: £27,000.00-£28,500.00 per year
