Ward 30/32 has 41 inpatient beds (4 of which are designated for enhanced care) and a 9 bedded assessment and short stay area. We have a busy clinical decisions area on the unit, where initial assessment of the child takes place. Ward 12 is the day case ward, it has 12 beds and a dedicated haematology area. We work within a friendly multi
- disciplinary team from multiple specialities and disciplines such as surgery and medicine. The environment includes a play area, sensory/physiotherapy room and school room. We also have an adolescent lounge which was designed by local young people.
The ward is part of The Yorkshire and Humber Children’s managed clinical network, which has an educational commitment to each hospital within the network and meets regularly to ensure the standardisation of care for the critically ill child. We also support both pre and post graduate students and have close ties with the University of Bradford.
- Assists the Senior Sisters / Charge Nurses in the organisation and control of all patient care and treatment maintaining high standards of care.
- Develops leadership skills both professional and managerial.
- Assists in ensuring effective communication with all levels of staff and the whole multidisciplinary team.
- Assists in assessing the overall resource requirements for the Unit.
- Assists in implementing and maintaining all policies and ensures staff compliance.
- Assists in Unit staff training, ensuring competence is achieved in all aspects of Paediatric Nursing.
- Assists in staff training and awareness, implementation, maintenance and effectiveness of Safe Guarding Children policy, procedure and training.
- Assists in staff training and awareness, effectiveness and implementation of the Common Assessment Framework.
- Initiates and develops new ideas for the improvement of services to patients in consultation with the Unit Senor Staff.
- Assists in producing staff rotas, creating shift patterns which meet the care needs of the patients for a 24 hour period.
- Assists in considering skill mix to develop a workforce capable of meeting patient needs.
- Assists, investigates and reports on complaints from patients/relatives/carers and staff and reports to Unit Senior Staff.
- Investigates and reports accidents and untoward occurrences and reports to Senior staff.ion.
