We are working with a market leader in the highways term maintenance industry to recruit a Trainee Street Works Inspector. As a Streetworks Inspector, you will report to the Inspections Team Lead and be an important member of their team. You will carry out Streetworks inspections, ensuring that all works undertaken on the ECC networks comply with current legislation.

**The Role;**
- Responsible for carrying out inspections and recording the condition of the public highway to ensure it is maintained to a standard acceptable to the Highways Authority.
- Responsible for raising defects using data capture devices to enable the delivery teams or utilities to plan and prioritise work accordingly, in line with company policy.
- Monitoring and supervise highway work undertaken by contractors or utilities to ensure compliance with specification, safety, legislation, and objectives of Essex Highways.
- Intervening and instructing an immediate response where imminent and significant dangers are identified. Responsible for inspecting and reporting on suitability of sites for issue of Statutory Licences.
- Responsible for providing advice, guidance and information to stakeholders, partners, and customers. Responding to complaints, including guiding customers if no action is to be taken.
- Responsible for identifying sites of accident claims, checking works history and specification for safety compliance.
- Preparing documentation and attending court hearings to give evidence as a professional witness, to enable decisions to be fully informed.
- Undertake Sample, Defect, S74’s, skips, scaffoldings, hoardings and crane licences, to deliver the Street Works function in conformance with National and Local key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Liaise with the Public Utility companies to discuss their programme of work and attending site meetings to discuss Reinstatement defaults.
- Support the checking of permits received (either system or hard copy) to ensure their sufficiency and accuracy and resolving any queries that arise.
- Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

- Possesses an NRSWA accreditation Supervisor Certificate

- Pink Book (An Introduction to the Use of Portable Vehicular Signals)
- Traffic Management Act
- NRSWA (New Roads and Streetworks Act)
- SROH (The Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways)
- Code of practice for recording of underground apparatus in streets
- Code of practice for the co-ordination of street and road works
- Code of practice for street works inspections.
- HAUC Guidance documents
- NJUG guidance docs (Tree’s, apparatus)

Desired
- Possesses Lantra accreditation.
- Educate-d to RQF level 3 or equivalent by experience in the field of highways and/or transportation.
- Knowledge of, and experience in, the maintenance, design and implementation of highway schemes including statutory processes and the use of construction materials used in highways.
- Evidence of continuing professional development, and expert knowledge in relevant professional area with Membership of the Institute of Civil Engineers, Institute of Highways & Transportation, Institute of Highway Incorporated Engineers, or other appropriate professional body.
