**Phlebotomist position**

**40 hours**

**5 day working week between Mon - Sat, alternating Saturdays**

Phlebotomists are skilled healthcare workers who are responsible for taking blood samples from their patients.

These samples are labelled and sent to the lab, tested and generate many different results which assist other healthcare workers in their roles.

It is important that the patients are identified correctly to ensure the blood samples taken belonging to the correct person.

Many skills are used during the procedure
- effective communication explaining the process to the patient
- reassurance to help patients who may be nervous or scared of the procedure
- staying calm to help the patients stay relaxed and at ease
- good listening skills when patients have fears or concerns
- knowledge of the equipment and how to use it correctly
- anatomy and physiology knowledge
- knowing the risks of infection and how to minimise these
- maintaining an organised work schedule
- ensuring samples are labelled correctly and sent to the lab in a timely manner
