**Why is this role important and how does it fit into the team, department and wider firm?**

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest teams in the country ranked Tier 1 nationally in Chambers for this area of work, undertaking Court of Protection work for a wide range of public and private sector health and social care clients.

**What does the role actually involve?**

We are seeking an experienced Associate/Senior Associate to manage a caseload of inquests (including advocacy) matters primarily for the NHS, with opportunities to also work for independent sector health and social care clients and local authorities. Our inquest and Court of Protection practice covers cases nationally, and the role can be based in any of our English offices listed above. You will work in a team that provides a range of high-quality legal services on complex matters.

**Responsibilities**
- Delivering exceptional client service, including proactive, strategic and commercial management of cases
- To manage a caseload of inquest (and potentially Court of Protection) work with mínimal supervision and, in general, without recourse to counsel
- Potentially also to deal with a range of other healthcare advisory work such as mental health cases and general advisory work
- Delegation and supervision of tasks to more junior members of the team where appropriate
- To undertake marketing activities, including the planning and delivery of relevant seminar and training programmes
- To achieve budgeted hours and fees for the year
- Willing to spend time with clients on short-term secondments if required
- Supports the team in delivering the core principles of investors in clients to deliver exceptional client service

**What technical skills are required for someone to be successful and enjoy the role?**
- Ideally experience in advising health and social care providers and commissioners on all matters relating to inquests (including Article 2 and jury inquests).
- Strong advocacy and case management skills gained in an inquest, Court of Protection or other relevant setting, preferably in respect of inquests/Court of Protection
- Presentation skills, to deliver training to clients or internally on relevant health and social care legal topics
- Attention to detail with the ability to explain/advise clients on complex technical aspects of process and procedure
- Able to prepare complex written advice to clients, being willing to learn and comply with client Protocols and Service Level Agreements
- Familiarity with IT (Microsoft Office 2010), and ideally with experience of appropriate case management systems
- Good understanding of the NHS
- Familiarity with online and library research facilities
