Our Production Apprenticeship Scheme is a 4-year program. We offer three separate Apprenticeships; descriptions of which are below. Please note; you need to be comfortable with working at height or in confined spaces as required.

Fitter - Fitters put together components & sub-assemblies that go into the aircraft on our customers’ final assembly lines. Fitters work to manufacturing & engineering instructions/drawings & will use skills including:

- Drilling, reaming & countersinking; Riveting & bolting; Using automated/robotic drilling equipment; Functional testing of mechanical systems

Machinist - Our Integrated Machining Facility manufactures small & large components. Materials used are Aluminum, Titanium, Steel & Composite Materials. Skills/knowledge developed will include:

- Operating 3, 4 & 5 axis CNC Milling machine tools; Operating co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM), conventional & digital measuring equipment; Understanding processes, procedures & engineering drawings

Fabricator - Fabricators use their skills to produce components & assemblies, including fuel, hydraulic & pneumatic systems. Skills/Knowledge gained will include:

- Manual & automated cutting techniques; Forming & joining techniques; Fabrication of metallic components; Operating CNC forming machines; Using precision measuring equipment

Job Responsibilities

Apprentice Programme Structure

**Year 1**: The majority of your first year will be working offsite at college completing your foundation training. Towards the end of the first year, you’ll complete a return to site induction followed by onsite training

**Years 2 & 3**: You will undertake Business Familiarisation rotation placements. During your placements, you will document all tasks & will review this regularly with your GKN Training Advisor

**Year 4**: You’ll be assigned to your final department. Your practical observation assessments will be completed, alongside the underpinning knowledge questions. You’ll also complete the End Point Assessment (EPA)

Key Responsibilities
- To observe the company’s terms & conditions of employment
- In both work & training, be diligent, punctual & attend courses, keep records & achieve the training objectives
- To behave in a responsible manner & in accordance with the requirements of Health & Safety legislation
- To promote the company’s name & image with respect & diplomacy
- To successfully complete all activities documented in the Apprentice Training Agreement

Job Qualifications
