This is a new team being set up within National Grid ESO which will focus on all the initiatives across the ESO to bring down balancing costs. The team will be accountable for:

- Ensuring the ESO continues to have a coordinated plan to manage balancing costs and improve collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure that this plan is implemented effectively. The team will provide the narrative on this plan to internal and external stakeholders.
- Leading Balancing Cost related improvement activities within and across the ESO; managing and prioritising innovative ideas.

The Balancing Costs Lead will support this newly established team in the following ways:

- Lead engagement with internal stakeholders across the ESO to deliver on the objectives of the balancing costs strategy
- Evolve and build the balancing costs strategy to identify, scope, and implement initiatives to mitigate balancing costs
- Continue to evolve a compelling narrative for internal and external stakeholders on balancing costs and the ESOs role in mitigating them
- Continue to scope emerging innovation projects and solutions and horizon scan any initiatives that will help to optimise balancing costs.
- As this is a new team the responsibilities of this role will evolve as the team structure and purpose does. You will have the opportunity and be encouraged to help us shape these changes and have input into how best to grow the team.

This role will be based ideally in Wokingham. We continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

**Key Accountabilities**:
The Balancing Costs Team Lead will have the following enduring key responsibilities:

- Feed into the development of and support delivery of the ESO’s strategic commitments under our RIIO2 business plan
- Take ownership of the content the Internal Balancing Costs Hub, create content and manage inputs.
- Track and report potential risks (and impact of risks), impacts of project delays and communicate these clearly back to the internal team.
- Support the Balancing Team manager in resourcing and upskilling the Balancing Costs Team to enable to us to achieve our objectives
- Work with balancing costs manager to provide external communication on Balancing Costs strategy and progress

**About You**:
Key capabilities required, supported by relevant experiences:

- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written and on Microsoft Teams).
- Excellent organisational skills
- Stakeholder management
- Project delivery
- Experience and expertise of the UK energy sector and regulatory landscape. An understanding of electricity market operation, of GB electricity market arrangements, the GB transmission system and the services required to keep the system secure.

**What You'll Get**:
This role offers a competitive salary between £45,000 - £55,000 per annum dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
