Now more than ever, people living with cancer are contacting our Macmillan Information and support centres for advice relating to the rising cost of living, so to meet this need we are expanding our newly merged team across LUFT.

In this role, you will work as a Welfare Rights Officer as part of a small team, using your in-depth knowledge of the welfare Benefits system and be able to deliver specialist welfare rights advice and support to people living with and affected by cancer as well their relatives/carers, health and social care professionals. This role will provide support, advice and information to help people affected by cancer to maximise their income.

Help services users to challenge benefits decisions and to prepare supporting them in preparation for tribunals if appropriate.

You will manage the day-to-day work priorities of referrals and your case load.

You will receive referrals via the Macmillan Information and support centres, which may be direct referral from service users or from Cancer teams within the Trust / community.

Service users are given a choice of where they would prefer to be seen, have contact with you. Therefore, you may be required to visit wards or meet service users on site at any of the LUFT trust site centres. To do this you can chose to use the Trust internal transport service should you wish to do so.

To provide dedicated consultancy services to the Macmillan Information Service/STHK Cancer Nurse Specialist teams on matters relating to living with a diagnosis of cancer and its impact on people’s lives.

To provide training for team members where appropriate on matters relating to living with a diagnosis of cancer and the impact on people’s lives.
To ensure that all client work is entered onto the Macmillan Information Centre recording system and that all records are accurately maintained and kept up to date for the purpose of continuity of case work and information retrieval.

To prepare clients for and advocate on their behalf at tribunals, reviews etc.
To participate in the Macmillan / review of services process as necessary.
Refer clients on to colleagues or other agencies as appropriate for specialist help with issues that fall outside the remit of the service including housing, debt and employment.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

- To maintain detailed statistical information as required by and in a format determined by the line manager so as to monitor and evaluate the service. To work with the line manager to design effective publicity material and to actively promote the service through appropriate methods.
- To follow the policies/procedures stated in the Trust and Macmillan guidelines.
- To provide to the line manager all relevant information for report production. Including the progress of the service in achieving its aims and objectives and outcomes in line with its performance targets.
- To be largely self-administrating, demonstrating excellent time management skills.
- The collection of all information necessary to meet the monitoring and evaluation requirements of management and funder.
