With recent breakthroughs in fusion technology and commercial investment growing, the work of the Government’s Fusion Team in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero is rapidly expanding.

The Fusion Energy Team is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of the UK’s Fusion Strategy, helping the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA, the UK’s national fusion laboratory) deliver its globally unique programmes and facilities, and developing new initiatives to grow the fusion supply chain, encourage investment, develop partnerships across the globe and continue to drive world-leading science in fusion. This includes the delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP), a programme which aims to build the world’s first prototype fusion power station.

- Ensuring timely submission of high-quality papers and other board materials ahead of meetings.
- Coordinating input into regular progress reporting of the team’s delivery of the Fusion Strategy to departmental leaders.
