Assistant Grower

Woodlark Nurseries Ltd is a ten-acre site situated in Hersham, Surrey. Glasshouses occupy approximately two acres and polythene tunnels another five acres, with outdoor cropping areas, where we grow Chrysanthemums and Hebes, as well as Daffodils.

We are looking for a hardworking, reliable Assistant Grower to join our small team.

The role will include the following duties:

- Walk crops and learn to identify when watering and feeding should be carried out.
- Carry out watering and feeding and learn to become a skilled hand waterer of crops
- Learn to use automated watering facilities
- Walk crops and learn to identify high-risk areas/crops in relation to pest and diseases
- Learn to identify early signs of pest and diseases.
- Build a rounded knowledge base of what chemicals/biochemical to spray/use to prevent and cure particular disease or pest problems
- Complete the spraying of crops when necessary in a safe manner
- Complete spraying training course
- Learn how to take water, feed and soil samples and send to the lab
- Help interpret results and adjust feeds appropriately
- Monitor feed and water Ph levels
- Calibrate/look after irrigation equipment
- Some heavy lifting involved.
- Help move plants around nursery when needed
- Help with picking and packing when needed
- Must be reliable and committed to work during our busy season (May to start of July)
