This is an exciting opportunity to work for a friendly and forward thinking team.

The role is to assist the Audiology Team in providing care for children aged 0-19 who need hearing assessments or support with their hearing. No audiology experience is necessary as full training will be given but Level 4 healthcare qualification is essential.

We work in the community in purpose built Audiology suites.

This is a part time post (22.5 hours) to be worked across 3 days Mon-Fri between 0830-1630

To assist the Qualified Audiologists in the daily clinical work of the department and be responsible for managing their own workload within a community setting.

To provide support in Children’s Audiology clinics by assisting the Audiologist.

To work to departmental protocols within the community setting to undertake routine audiological assessments from direct referrals, on children over 5 years of age.

To assist the Consultant/ Doctors/Clinical Scientist and Qualified Audiologists in the testing of pre-school children in a community and diagnostic setting.

Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills with other professionals and service users, including patients, parents, carers and relatives

To help the clinics run efficiently by providing administrative support and clerical assistance where required

Key results from the job holder
- Assists the Consultant/Doctors/Clinical Scientist/Registered Qualified Audiologists in the provision of specific clinical work on a daily basis, ensuring and efficient and effective service within clinical governance guidelines.
- Follows professional standards and protocols for routine assessments.
- Contact with clients within hospital clinical settings, community clinical settings, patients own home, performing routine duties referring non-routine to the qualified audiologist.
- To perform and analyse routine assessments of hearing on children over 5 years of age with minimum supervision.
- To assist in the diagnostic assessment of pre
- school infants.
- Work to departmental and national policies and procedures for routine assessments using air conduction headphones and bone conduction vibrator to obtain accurate hearing threshold levels, following BSA guidelines. Instructs the child on test requirements, use of tact and persuasion where barriers to understand exist this may require the use of play audiometry using toys. Requiring frequent use of keyboard whilst sitting in a restricted position.
- Assist the Doctor/Clinical Scientist/Paediatric Audiologist in the assessment of hearing in children which may include children who have developmental problems. This involves active participation and ensuring that all test stimuli are presented at the required level at the correct time.
- Perform middle ear analysis using screening tympanometry, including probe microphone insertion to determine the middle ear pathology.
- Perform examination of the ear using clinical Otoscope in order to identify healthy and abnormal ear conditions. Recognising contra-indications to performing further procedures, seek advice from supervising Audiologist.
- Provision of routine hearing aid repairs to children over 5 years of age with hearing disability dealing with enquires and other matters which are generally routine, for non-routine enquires is able to refer to the qualified audiologists
- Assist the Paediatric Audiologist in the provision of specific work on a daily basis, ensuring an efficient and effective service is run within clinical governance guidelines.
- To support the Audiology Assistant when required with school hearing screening.
- Contributes to rehabilitation of hearing aided patients with minimum supervision. This includes:

- Instructing child and family on effective use of aid, communicating realistic expectations, advice on the disabling effects of hearing loss. Empowering the child in working towards their rehabilitation and management of hearing loss.
- Using effective communication and persuasion where a poor motivational attitude to hearing loss may exist and barriers to understanding and communication may include hearing loss, visual impairment (including deaf-blind clients) and children with complex needs.
- To participate in hearing aid repair sessions. This entails:

- Dealing with routine maintenance and replacement of faulty hearing aid
