Hutcheon Mearns are working with a large upstream oil and gas operator to recruit a Senior Tax Advisor to join their team in Aberdeen. This is a senior position within their team and the role will have strong focus on tax advisory and project work, providing robust, reliable, and timely tax advice to the business to support operations and on a variety of matters.

Confident, robust, and reliable communication is a necessity for this role as it will have direct exposure to business partners, external co-venturers, external auditors, HMRC (compliance), HMRC (Policy), group leadership team and management and external tax forums (including OEUK and UKOITC). Strong tax accounting awareness is also desirable in respect of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for e.g., statutory accounts, monthly and quarterly provisioning, and financial planning cycles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the overall corporation tax and supplementary charge compliance process
- Lead the interface with HMRC on corporation tax and wider tax initiatives
- Manage tax disclosures for the annual statutory accounts
- Lead interactions with external auditors in respect of statutory accounting matters
- Review monthly and quarterly tax results
- Provide appropriate tax support to the wider business, including engagement with the Decommissioning and Commercial and BD Groups to provide advice on planning opportunities and loss relief mitigations
- Ensure timely and accurate CT/SC tax filings with HMRC; coordinate compliance process including management of External Advisor
- Ensure HMRC enquiry matters are progressed in a timely fashion
- Ensure adherence with BEPS and transparency initiatives
- Accountable for transfer pricing reviews and documentation
- Ensure Senior Accounting Officer, EITI and other tax transparency and governance obligations are met and appropriately disclosed
- Research tax technical matters and awareness of tax legislative changes that may impact the company and provide appropriate advice and updates to management
- Undertake tax advisory and project work including engagement with external advisors and internal stakeholders as required
- Provide tax support to operational and functional teams within the business, including Commercial and BD, Decommissioning and Marketing teams
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced members of the team Tax Accountants / Analysts with respect of monthly tax accounting and annual statutory accounting processes, including review as required
