**About the opportunity**:
Look no further - our **Trainee
- Designer/Estimator Programme** is back We currently have x3 permanent opportunities for Trainees to join our growing Sales & Design department based at our Head Office in Hamilton.

The objective of the Trainee
- Designer/Estimator Programme is to nurture and develop your talent, to help you progress within the company, carving out a career as a fully qualified Multi Utility Designer/Estimator. Design is real business driver for us and a key service differentiator, so we are looking for people who are keen to learn and motivated to succeed.

As a Trainee will train you up to design multi-utility networks for new housing, multiple occupancy projects and I&C. You will learn, understand, and manage the process from new enquiry, ensuring timely quotation and design approval for adoption purpose. You will become commercially driven and be confident at technical liaison with sales teams and customers.

We’ll teach you how to produce outline route designs, bill of quantities, technical approval along with being able to undertake costing, pricing, and billing schedules all in accordance with commercial and financial procedures.

Throughout our 4-year programme you will progress through recognised milestones, including completion of a HNC in your chosen field and on successful completion of the programme you will be a fully qualified Multi Utility Designer/Estimator.

**Your responsibilities**:

- Manage a portfolio of multi-utility design projects ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards and technical policies and bulletins
- Learn and understand the process for managing all aspects of the design life cycle from quotation production to adoption, ensuring that time-bound milestones are achieved.
- Understand reasoning for accurate documentation control and take responsibility for ensuring accurate project documentation is recorded.
- Liaison with Design Engineers and Designers to ensure appropriate technical input and compliance with standards is achieved.
- Liaise as required with external agencies including gas / electricity network operators and water companies
- Understand how to verify contract against original quote, ensuring that assumptions, plant and equipment and non-contestable works are valid and within specification
- Learn, understand then adhere to commercial and financial policies and procedures, highlighting variations from agreed specifications
- Work efficiently and effectively to achieve personal and company targets and objective
**Experience / Knowledge**:
**Essential**:

- Demonstrate a knowledge of Energetics Corporate Structure and Design & Builds’ part within it
- Ability to effectively understand and interpret basic engineering drawings and appropriate commercial documentation
- Excellent IT literacy with the ability to use MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
- Excellent numeracy and analytical ability
**Desirable**:

- Experience of designing either single or multi-utility projects in a range of domestic, commercial, and multiple-occupancy settings
- Knowledge of relevant new roads and street works regulations
- Ability to adapt to or have experience of commercial / in-house design and costing packaging including Gasworks, Windebut
- Experience of working within an engineering environment

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- 5 GCSE’s / Standard Grades including Maths and English at A-C
**Desirable**:

- HNC in an Engineering related discipline or SHEA Power / Water / Gas qualification
**Personal Attributes**:

- Ability to follow process whilst being proactive and can show initiativ and effectively manage own workload and conflicting priorities to achieve output targets
- Able to recognise limitations of own experience and qualifications and request support
- Excellent communication skills and able to build relationships with all project stakeholders
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with design team to correct errors
