Bank Band 7 Sonographer

We are looking for an experienced Sonographer to join our team of bank workers to work at The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust.

The Ultrasound Department trains student sonographers with a commitment to delivering high-quality teaching. It actively supports and encourages career development at all levels.
You should be a qualified Sonographer capable and willing to work to the highest standards. You will be part of a team who support each other and take pride in delivering excellent patient care.

**Responsibilities**:
1 To use ultrasound to carry out diagnostic examinations of patients and provide clinical reports in line with departmental guidelines.
2 To assess the need for referral of patients, to other clinical staff, in line with departmental guidelines.
3 To communicate with patients, their relatives & others about the purpose of the examinations & the scan results (in line with departmental guidelines).This will include reacting sensitively and professionally to unforeseen clinical situations such as the breaking bad news in cases of fetal abnormality, intrauterine death and other extremely sensitive & complex situations.
4 To ensure patients are giving informed consent for all examinations.
5 To develop ones own skills & knowledge & contribute to the development of others, identifying any training needs to the Lead Sonographer.
6 To take responsibility for own professional development and performance, and maintain a CPD portfolio.
7 To plan & prioritise ones own workload & that of the section to ensure the efficient flow of work, keeping waiting times to a minimum and maintaining a high standard of service delivery.
8 To take active role in the development of clinical guidelines & protocols.

Job summary
The sonographer will be responsible for scanning patients and producing independent reports of these scans in line with departmental guidelines.
The sonographer will take an active role in teaching & practical training of student sonographers, specialist registrars & others in training.
The sonographer will also participate in the management of the ultrasound department and in the audit & clinical governance programs.
