We have an exciting opportunity at the Royal Brompton Hospital and are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Clinical Practice Educator.

As a Clinical Practice Educator, you will play a crucial role in supporting the professional development and education of our nurses in a 35 bedded cardio thoracic surgical ward at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

We are looking for a driven individual with Cardio thoracic experience, who will share and respect our values. We are seeking someone who is engaging, enthusiastic and organised. You will be an autonomous individual who will be required to build strong links with colleagues from the Education Team and MDT in order to develop effective working practices in line with your role.

You will;
Ensure that education and training meets the specific needs of the specialist area.

Promote an environment that encourages learning, teaching and the development of all staff, including those undergoing training.

Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the Education and Training within the specialty.

To provide clinical expertise and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

To manage the clinical skills development and the provision of co-ordinated training and education to meet service requirement.

To work with clinical staff to identify appropriate learning strategies to develop both role and service development.

Responsible for ensuring educational/training resources are optimised and used effectively within individual clinical environments and service line.

To provide the necessary infrastructure to develop a positive learning environment to ensure all learners are supported in practice.

To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the Ward/Department and Trust wide.

Along with fellow clinical practice educators, ward managers and matrons, to monitor the quality of nursing care and action audit information to achieve agreed standards.

Maintain study leave records and particularly monitor mandatory training compliance.

Work clinically with staff according to their needs in the cardiothoracic services unit.

Co-ordinate induction and orientation programmes with the Ward Managers.

Ensuring that provision of care is in accordance with the Trust’s Polices & procedures.

In conjunction with the staff team, to lead in developing, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining a Ward/Departmental ethos and a standard approach to the delivery of excellent nursing care.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, actively seeking evidence-based practice which will support clinical outcomes as appropriate.

Ensure that nursing documentation is maintained to the Trust standard (including electronic records) and implement nursing audit of records to measure and evaluate care planning.

To be aware of and champion current trends and developments in nursing and in the NHS and be responsible for taking the lead in the continuing professional development of ward/departmental staff and self.

To lead on the implementation of the Trust’s framework for Clinical Governance within the Cardiothoracic Services Unit.

In conjunction with the staff and the ward managers develop a mechanism for setting goals and bench-marking standards of care. Develop tools to improve the quality of the service and co-ordinate clinical services across the Ward/Department.

To take the lead in ensuring compliance to Trust policies and procedures among the multi-disciplinary team.
