**Care Leaver Housing Officer**:
**37 hours (flexible working considered)**
**Fixed Term until July 2025**:
**Salary £27,852 - £32,020**:
**Dorset
- base to be agreed, combined with home-working (where applicable)**:
**What’s in it for you**:
This role is to assist the council in dealing with its statutory functions in addressing homelessness under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996, as amended by the Homeless Reduction Act 2017 whilst also preventing Care Leavers from becoming homeless by carrying out proactive preventative work across both Housing and Children's Social Care. You will work with Care Leavers who are facing homelessness or threatened with homelessness in a variety of settings, and assisting them to resolve their homelessness.

The team is a busy statutory frontline service which seeks to sympathetically yet robustly assist those households who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. You will have the support of a number of different teams based within the service to help you deliver the best options for our customers.

This post offers the flexibility of working in a hybrid way. There is the option to have an office base at a number of locations across Dorset as well as working from home. We make use of Microsoft Teams to communicate with customers and colleagues as well as being expected to undertake home visits or face to face meetings as and when required. You will have the benefit of being jointly supervised by Housing and Children's Social Care (Leaving Care Team).

**What you can expect to be doing**:
This role has been created to compliment the joint approach that the Housing Team and Children’s Services are adopting to deliver the Care Leaver Joint Housing Protocol. The postholder will work collaboratively with the Social Workers, Housing Officers, and Personal Advisors to identify tailored housing advice and options for Care Leavers that avoids the risk of homelessness. The post holder will lead on interviewing young people in a strength based and supportive manner to ensure we fully assess and understand their needs and circumstances.

The purpose of the role is to prevent homelessness using a variety of options to assist the housing challenges people may be facing, such as the cost of living crisis.

The reason why someone becomes homeless is varied and as a Housing Officer you will be expected to deal and offer advise over a wide range of issues including but not limited to:

- tenants’ rights and occupation
- benefit eligibility and assisting to make claims where required
- rent or mortgage arrears
- managing debt
- assisting people who are at risk of violence or abuse
- obtaining accommodation in the private rented sector.
- For those customers who are owed a duty under homeless legislation you will be assessing customers needs and devising Personal Housing Plans outlining the steps that both you and the customer will take to remedy the situation

**About you**:
Do you develop positive and professional relationships?

We need people who can work in partnership with other agencies to assist and support our clients. The successful applicants will need to maintain and develop professional relationships with colleagues, landlords and a wide range of agencies.

Are you customer focused with good communication skills?

**Additional Information**:
This post requires significant travel. You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.

See our adult safeguarding policy.
