The Trees, Shrubs and Sward Horticulturist reports to the Senior Horticulturist and is responsible for supporting the Senior Horticulturist with the management and maintenance of the Arboretum, Restored Landscape, Slate Beds, the Core Garden tree collections and grassed areas and pockets of woodland.

They are part of a team and will support the Senior Horticulturist with the management of apprentices and volunteers. They will undertake the seasonal activities required to maintain the Arboretum, Restored Landscape, Slate Beds, the Core Garden tree collections and grassed areas and pockets of woodland within the blue boundary on the Garden Areas Map and its plant collections as directed by the TSS Senior Horticulturist and seek to do this to the highest horticultural and curatorial standards.

They will use a range of horticultural machinery in the day-to-day management of their areas. They report to the Senior Horticulturist - Trees, Shrubs and Sward.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

1 Undertake all seasonal horticultural tasks necessary to maintain the areas in which they work under the direction of the Senior Horticulturist.

2 They will use a range of horticultural machinery in the day-to-day management of their areas.

3 Support the Senior Horticulturist with the management and direction of apprentices, trainees and volunteers.

4 Support the Senior Horticulturist with the curation of the living plant collections within the section they work, keeping accurate data-rich plant records on the plant records database and support with labelling.

5 Support the Senior Horticulturist with researching and proposing plant acquisitions and developments to their areas.

6 Work within the health and safety standards set particularly for the use of machinery and when working around the public.

7 Assist the Senior Horticulturist with the training and development of apprentices and volunteers in the areas they work.

8 Undertake weekend duty cover for the Department as per the weekend duty rota.

9 Participate in Garden events public outreach and educational activities as required.

10 Support their Senior Horticulturist with content creation for public engagement on NBGWs work and activities related to their role and the area and collections they work within.

11 Undertake any other duties as reasonably required.

Part-time hours: 37.5 per week

**Salary**: £21,118.00 per year
