**Working for the Norfolk and Suffolk Area Team**

The counties of Norfolk and Suffolk have a wonderful and diverse geology and natural environment, rich in history and habitats. Features range from great swathes of wetlands and heathlands to the striking coastal habitats and marine sites, ancient wood pasture and forests, river valleys and estuaries. They are complemented by the deeply rural nature of our agricultural landscapes.

Partnerships for Nature Recovery are at the heart of everything we do. We work with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, including our Designated Landscape partners, Local Authorities, Water Resource East, The Forestry Commission, Environment Agency, Wildlife Trusts, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, major landowners, farmers and our local communities. We want to help support flourishing landscapes that are a source of rich biodiversity, pride, employment, access and enjoyment.

We are looking for motivated individuals to join our growing team and have roles available in the key areas of Freshwater, Protected Sites and Sustainable Development. Full training and support will be provided for all roles.

Job description

**Role Description**

**Freshwater Lead Adviser**

**Key Tasks**:

- Provide technical freshwater related advice as required, to support the maintenance, restoration or enhancement of designated rivers, wetlands and transitional and coastal waters, from strategy through to site-based delivery
- Coordinate the evaluation of water dependant elements of site condition monitoring, such as geomorphology, river habitat, water quality and flow/level, as appropriate to an individual site and its features.
- Provide technical advice on water related casework, including hydrological advice on abstraction, water quality and water level/flow issues.
- Contribute to the production of water related plans, working closely with the Environment Agency and Water Companies - including Diffuse Water Pollution Plans, River Basin Management Plans and statutory water company plans.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders and partners, as well as NE colleagues to support and enable the delivery of integrated biodiversity outcomes and integrated approaches to freshwater dependant habitat management.
- Work with the Environment Agency on the development of their flood risk management programme and related projects and provide support for Natural Flood Management approaches.

**Protected Sites Lead Adviser**

As Protected Sites Lead Adviser you’ll provide technical advice on Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs). You’ll need to develop an understanding of the sites to ensure decisions are evidence-led and sustainable and that the conservation interests of the protected site are maintained and enhanced thereby maximising its contribution to nature recovery. You will have a range of knowledge, skills and experience, covering species and habitat management, regulatory work, data analysis, and the ability to use your professional judgement.
