North Yorkshire Council are able to offer a wide range of work experience opportunities across the County of North Yorkshire.

We are currently able to offer opportunities within the following services:

- Finance

Local authorities, such as North Yorkshire Council are funded through multiple funding streams, as well as raising their own funds to support their services provision. Consequently, having robust finances is extremely important for local authorities to minimise risks and to maintain long term financial sustainability. A finance placement will allow you to work within a broad field and in a range of teams. Financial activities include accounting, budgeting, payment, and income collection throughout North Yorkshire Council.
- Technology and Change

The Technology and Change team are the technical and service delivery arm of Technology, underpinning all the council and some of its partner services. The role of T&C is to develop innovative approaches to service delivery and use technology to improve the council’s overall efficiency.
- Business - Local Enterprise Partnership

The York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is a public-private partnership charged with driving economic growth and prosperity across York and North Yorkshire.
- Democratic Services

Legal and democratic services are responsible for ensuring the legality of the council’s operations and decision-making, providing high quality support to elected members, the council, the executive, committees, directorates, and external clients, as well as supporting the democratic processes.
- Emergency Planning

The Emergency Planning Team plan for a wide variety of potential emergencies and incidents, as well as supporting regional and national responses to severe events and the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum.
- Human Resources (HR)

The HR service is constantly adapting service through implementing changes driven from new legislation, market forces or customer requirements and, most recently, the unification of the eight councils. The HR teams understand, deliver, and embed these changes accurately and with strong quality assurance and governance. The HR work is complex and interesting and includes:

- Organisation redesign - driving business performance through workforce development
- Supporting managers with their staff leadership approaches
- Supporting managers with interventions - particularly when they face the complexities of performance, attendance, and conflict resolutions
- Business Administration

Business administration sits will within one of the teams in the Business Support Service, either in one of the shared service teams providing services across NYC or in a Business Support team providing support to a specific Directorate operational function. Business Administration involves supporting the day-to-day functions of a specific services and the overall council.
- Environmental Health

Environmental health is a broad service that affects the health and wellbeing of the public and the natural environment. Environmental Health Practitioners manage a range of sectors including food hygiene, health & safety, and pollution.
- Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

The Howardian Hills AONB covers 204 sq km of the North Yorkshire countryside, nestled between the North York Moors National Park, the Yorkshire Wolds, and the Vale of York. The AONB team encourages positive action to look after the landscape, wildlife, and historical/cultural heritage of the AONB, whilst also encouraging a healthy rural economy.
- Catering

The Catering team delivers an efficient catering service, that operates to high standards of food safety. The catering teams undertake a range of duties, such as basic food preparation, setting out and putting away dining equipment, serving meals, washing up and cleaning the kitchen.
