Radiotherapy Assistant

The Radiotherapy Assistant will be responsible for providing a high standard of administrative support and a highly professional, patient-focused service to the Radiotherapy Service.
The post holder will be responsible for transporting patients to and from wards and departments and attending to their needs.
The post holder will be responsible for Radiotherapy administration including the booking of patients through the Radiotherapy Pathway ensuring all associated tasks are completed in accordance with local protocol.
The post holder will liaise on a daily basis with a range of staff including radiographers, nursing staff, clerical and secretarial staff, healthcare scientists, consultant clinical oncologists and chemotherapy schedulers.
The post holder will liaise directly with the patient regarding their pre-treatment or treatment appointment, providing information and reassurance.
Transfer patients between wards and departments as required including patients receiving chemotherapy and oxygen in accordance with hospital policy, reporting without delay any difficulties or concerns regarding patients to the radiographer or nurse in charge.
Ensure that wheelchairs and trolleys are maintained in good working order.
Ensure that the oxygen cylinders are maintained in good working order and kept full, changing cylinders as and when required.
Collect patient prescriptions from pharmacy as required.
Carry out patient movement and transfer, taking account of the local policies for manual handling.
Care for patients attending the department, helping each patient as necessary such as changing for treatment or examination and attending to basic hygiene needs.
Acts as a chaperone or supporter for the patient.
Maintain and update information on the computer systems as required.
Maintain an accurate and up to date database of patients on the radiotherapy pathway.
Book appointments in review, pre-treatment and treatment in accordance with departmental policy.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Radiotherapy Service at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust as a Radiotherapy Assistant. The Radiotherapy Team are looking for self-motivated, adaptable individuals who are reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic, able to demonstrate initiative and good organisational & communication skills. A sense of humour is an advantage and the ability to integrate well with the existing teams essential.
The Radiotherapy Assistants will be required to carry out a wide range of duties including patient transfers, clerical work and other supportive functions.
Hours of work may be flexible and will reflect the needs of the Service. Radiotherapy treatment is routinely delivered between 8.00am and 8.00pm, Monday to Friday, so some shift working may be required.
