Horticulturalist / Gardener - for Lawns & Hedges

My client is recruiting for an experienced gardener to work on a large private estate in Nidderdale (close to Ripon and Harrogate). The Estate comprises of around 1,500 hectares of forestry, farmland and moorland in addition to 15 hectares of formal gardens. These gardens include formal ornamental gardens, a working kitchen garden, numerous specimen trees, water features, an extensive Rhododendron collection and a walled arboretum.

The lawn work will include both pedestrian and ride-on work.

Other duties include, but is not limited to, edging, spraying and weed control, strimming, fertilising, scarifying, aerating, overseeding and top-dressing as and when is required.

This role is full-time, but in out-of-season periods, other work such as leaf-clearing and general garden maintenance will be required.

Main responsibilities:

- Daily maintenance and management of the amenity lawns around the main residence.
- Ongoing maintenance and management of the formal and informal hedges around the main residence.
- Undertake other gardening duties as and when required.
- Be able to work safely at all times, adhering to the estate health and safety policy.

Skills and qualifications:

- RHS level 2 or equivalent as a minimum.
- Previous experience working on amenity turf and hedges as well as good horticultural knowledge and experience in the industry.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Full driving licence.
