Full-time 37.5 hours Specialist Orthoptist Band 6

A permanent full-time specialist orthoptist vacancy has arisen within our team of orthoptists and orthoptic support workers working alongside the wider ophthalmology team with Consultant Paediatric & Adult Strabismus/Neuro-Ophthalmologists, Hospital Optometrists and Community Paediatricians on MDT clinics.

The post is mainly based at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh where the service handles a varied caseload of paediatric and adult motility.

Clinical duties include general orthoptic clinics and specialist clinics including complex paediatric, functional vision assessment clinics, TED, stroke and adult neuro-ophthalmology clinics. Also joint orthoptic/optometry clinics and an orthoptic delivered ‘See for School’ pre-school vision screening service within nursery settings.

The department has a commitment to clinical teaching of undergraduate students including orthoptic and medical students. Previous experience of teaching and mentoring of undergraduate students would be desirable.

The department actively participates in CPD and audit.

A diploma/degree in Orthoptics with current HCPC registration and a wide range of orthoptic practice with good clinical knowledge and excellent communication skills essential.
