Health Care Assistant

**Position Overview**:As a Healthcare Assistant working with First choice nursing, you will play a crucial role in providing essential support and care to patients in various healthcare settings. You will work under the guidance of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care, promote patient comfort, and contribute to the overall well-being of individuals in need. Your responsibilities will span a range of tasks aimed at assisting with daily activities, maintaining a safe environment, and ensuring patients' physical and emotional needs are met.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Personal Care**: Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, ensuring their dignity and privacy are respected.
**Mobility Assistance**: Help patients move around safely, using proper techniques and equipment, to prevent falls and ensure their comfort.
**Observation and Reporting**: Monitor patients' physical and mental condition, noting any changes or concerns, and promptly report them to the supervising healthcare professional.
**Vital Signs**: Take and record vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate, accurately and as instructed.
**Medication Support**: Assist with medication reminders, administration, and recording as per established protocols and under supervision.
**Assistance with Meals**: Provide support during meal times, including feeding patients who require assistance, and adhering to any dietary restrictions.
**Documentation**: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including observations, care provided, and any other relevant information.
**Infection Control**: Follow proper infection control protocols to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and healthcare staff.
**Comfort and Emotional Support**: Offer companionship and emotional support to patients, engaging in conversations, listening actively, and providing reassurance.
**Assistance with Medical Procedures**: Assist registered nurses or healthcare professionals during medical procedures, treatments, and therapies as required.
**Patient Safety**: Prioritize patient safety by identifying and addressing potential hazards or risks in the healthcare environment.
**Communication**: Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team, patients, and their families, ensuring open and clear communication about patients' conditions and needs.
**Professional Development**: Participate in training and development opportunities provided by the agency to enhance your skills and knowledge.
**Compliance**: Adhere to agency policies, procedures, and relevant regulations, ensuring ethical and professional conduct at all times.
**Qualifications and Requirements**:
- **Healthcare Experience**: Previous experience as a healthcare assistant, nursing assistant, or similar role is preferred.
- **Basic Healthcare Knowledge**: Familiarity with basic medical terminology, infection control, and patient care techniques.
- **Compassion**: A genuine desire to help others and provide compassionate care to individuals with varying needs.
- **Communication Skills**: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- **Adaptability**: Ability to work in different healthcare settings, adapt to changing patient needs, and follow instructions.
- **Reliability**: Consistent attendance and punctuality to fulfill shifts and meet patients' needs.
- **Physical Stamina**: Capability to handle physical demands of the job, including standing, lifting, and assisting with patient mobility.
- **Certification**: Possession of relevant certifications or training in healthcare assistance is beneficial.
- **DBS Check**: A clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to ensure suitability for working with vulnerable populations.
