- **Outdoor Learning Facilitator** to join the Harmeny Outdoors Team on a part-time employed basis
- **(0.8 FTE)**, to provide a range of high-quality outdoor learning opportunities for children with complex social, emotional and behavioural support needs. This post will involve all types of outdoor activities and learning opportunities, for example canoeing, climbing, bushcraft, outdoor cooking and learning about the environment.- A driving licence allowing the use of our vehicles is essential as is basic computer skills to be able to complete paperwork and report writing.-

- Promote a positive ethos across the organisation consistent with Harmeny’s vision, purpose and core values.
- Facilitate a range of outdoor learning, adventurous and environmental activities, alongside the Harmeny Outdoors Team, Care and Education staff.
- Actively engage with children in a caring, sensitive and encouraging way, building positive and trusting relationships and maintaining appropriate boundaries at all times.
- Design, plan and deliver a range of activities, based on the needs of individuals and groups, facilitated individually or as part of a team.
- Maintain the health and safety of all participants, including self, children and colleagues, in accordance with legislation as well as policies and procedures laid down by Harmeny and our advisers.
- Ensure the maintenance and upkeep of resources and equipment.
- Draft reports and complete paperwork related to the children and/or activities, as appropriate.
- Work in accordance with all Harmeny policies and procedures and adhere to the professional NGB standards as stipulated by AALA.
- Assist with developmental initiatives, in line with the Harmeny and departmental strategic plans.
- Represent Harmeny Outdoors at other meetings and groups as required by your manager.
- Plan and deliver overnight camps, trips and outings when required, both on and off site throughout the year.
- Participate in learning and development initiatives, including facilitating induction sessions for the benefit of colleagues.
- Attend supervision, performance review, training and other meetings, as required.
- Regularly drive / transport children and staff to outdoor learning activities offsite, via minibus or another fleet vehicle.
- Maintain any relevant memberships, e.g. of associations related to outdoor activities.
- Undertake any other duties delegated by the Service Manager (Day Service and Harmeny Outdoors) or a member of the Senior Management Team, consistent with the role.

Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications

**Essential**
- A qualification in outdoor education, youth work, or relevant professional experience gained within one of these disciplines.
- At least one nationally recognised leadership or coaching qualification and experience that enables you to lead a group in paddlesports or climbing.
- Ability to drive fleet vehicles.
- Knowledge and understanding of children who are looked after and with complex additional support needs, including knowledge of safeguarding and child protection issues.
- Experience of designing and facilitating outdoors activities as a delivery platform to support the development and progression of young people, who have complex additional support needs and challenging behaviour arising from personal, social and emotional difficulties.
- Demonstrable experience of using initiative and creativity to individually plan and lead sessions tailored to the needs of individuals and groups.
- An understanding of the practice issues of ‘physical intervention’, with the ability to undertake such intervention when, as a last resort, it is required.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work flexibly and as part of an energetic and lively team.
