Building Psychological Capital is an independent specialist mental health service provider comprising of an experienced team of mental health professionals with a range of specialisms in health and social care including Looked After Children and the impact of adverse experiences. Our aim is to help children and young people manage and process their unresolved traumatic experiences using evidence-based practice, encouraging active participation and rewarding progress to foster a sense of achievement / mastery.

**Main purpose of the Job**:
We are excited to offer a Resilience Mentor the chance to join our specialist mental health team. As a Resilience Mentor you will work with children and young people who have substance misuse / drugs and alcohol addictions. It will be essential you are knowledgeable in this field and are able to help plan interventions and treatment programmes for the children and young people. We are looking for someone experienced who can build up therapeutic relationships. You will help inform and upskill children and young people so they are equipped to make safer decisions. Where possible group work with children can be complete.

You will work within a team and be expected to participate in regular MDT meetings. This will give you the chance to work alongside other professionals building your organisation and communication skills whilst working to deadlines. You should also possess leadership qualities to manage and educate staff teams providing guidance on substance misuse and strategies for continued progress.

**Working Environment**:
The post is a blended approach with remote working as well as within residential services for looked after children and young people who present with risk taking behaviours.

The post holder can, where agreed, provide virtual staff consultations and engage in virtual meetings. Assessments will predominantly be completed onsite with children and young people.

The post holder could be exposed to unpleasant conditions such as verbal aggression, hostility and the threat of physical aggression from young people.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Providing children and young people with support and advice regarding substance misuse
- Professional consultations with staff with written guidance provided
- Carrying out appropriate assessments to measure outcomes of interventions
- Plan treatment and intervention programmes
- Attendance at monthly clinical meetings with BPC
- Attendance at external professional meetings providing advocacy and support
- Build therapeutic relationships with children and staff

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Essentials**
**- Knowledge, Experience, Skills**
- Experience of working with children and young people who are in care
- Good knowledge of the effects of substance misuse and treatment method
- Good knowledge of current issues children and young people face
- Good knowledge of developmental psychology including attachment theory
- Good knowledge of clinical psychology including theoretical models
- Knowledge of psychological assessment including psychometric testing
- Excellent organisational skills
- Highly motivated and keen to develop knowledge and skills in applied psychology
- Ability to work reflectively
- Ability to engage in supervision and to be proactive in preparing for this
- Possesses good self-awareness and appropriate self-care skills
- Ability to work flexibly and efficiently
- Excellent team Player and ability to build relationships
- Excellent communicational skills in terms of verbally conveying information and producing high quality written reports
- Ability to work autonomously within appropriate limits and under supervision from a clinical psychologist
- Excellent skills in collecting, organising and analysing data

**Salary**: £28,407.00-£34,581.00 per year
